Why is it whenever people mention a character of theirs that has a low
charisma, they try and play the person as a rude, crude, Andrew-Dice-Clay-ish
person?

I once had a character who had a charisma of 1. Really nice person, very
intelligent, good leadership qualities, etc. But he was *UGLY* with a capital
U. People who saw his face tended to either scream, faint, or throw up. This
was all due to the fact that he once was shot in the face at point-blank
range with a Remington Roomsweeper, and lived to tell about it. Unfortunately,
the person who fixed him up afterwards was not exactly the best doctor in the
world, and so the character ended up with a face that basically looks like
a cross between a bulldog and a pepperoni pizza.

What I am trying to say is that rather than always role playing a low-charisma

person as being a loudmouth asshole, try playingthem as being uglier than a
troll with acne. Believe me, its a challenge.

Hmm. It was always my understanding that charisma had nothing to do with
physical appearance; that charisma 1 meant that the character was a jerk
who didn;t get along well with people. This is why they have so many
problems with social skills.
Although I guess ugliness could affect your ability to negotiate or
fasttalk someone...

A charisma of 1 doesn't mean you're a jerk. And appearance can affect it.
It means you don't relate to others much at all. The reasons can be varied.
The Dice-man has a Cha 1 because he's a jerk. That shy kid from high school
who never went out on a date because he never asked anyone out has a Cha 1.
The Elephant Man had a Cha 1 because he looked hideous. Madonna has a Cha
6, but it doesn't matter because she's a slut :-) (that's reputation for
ya).

come to think of it it fits that a decker could have such a low
charisma if you accept charisma strictly as a social interaction
mode. If one spends all of ones time decking then one does not
learn quickly how to associate with the people around them which
may explain why my guy trusts far too completely, far too readily he
hasn't learned to be paranoid enough yet..

Yah, low charisma can be anything from rudeness to shyness to uglyness to
just plain keeping your mouth shut. There was a brilliant decker from a
summer campaign who had a fab bod but just kept quiet so much that no
one'd askk for a date.

Seems to me that it's a lot easier to roleplay a character who doesn't get
along with anyone, or is just a loner, than a character who is just downright
U-G-L-Y. One you can simulate. The other, you don't want to.

hello

charisma has nothing to with the physical appearance of the character.
to reflect a low charisma i limmit the social skills for the characters
in my party, therfore now character can have a social skillrating higher
than his charisma (double his charisma, soft version).
example: character with CHA: 3 could't have a Ettiquette Skill raiting
higher than 3(6)
