Well, no. There was this guy who wanted to smuggle 50 LSD tabs over
from the Netherlands. In his socks. Well, the cops caught him (he *was*
behaving strangely) and locked him up until he got clear again. The bad
thing is, he didn't and now thinks he's orange-juice (No shit. The guy now
lives in a psychiarity (sp?) a few klicks from here).

Or there was one fella who wanted to start dealing acid big time and
taped 2000 (don't ask me..) around his torso, before bording a plane. He
died a few hours later, AFAIK.

Man you know the same guy is here in the Carolinas. I've
also heard he's in DC, and New York, and a dozen other places. Urban legend
dude. If it ever really happened (which is, of course, totally unverifiable)
it happened quite a while ago since this has been circulating for years.

Urban legend not withstanding, LSD can have serious repercussions
related to one's mental and neurological health -- permanent brainfry.
If you can have flashbacks years down the road from a single hit, I'd
say that there's a definite chance that LSD can do some permanent damage
to one's brain, especially with a large enough dose.

Disclaimer: I have not been, and, likely, never will be, engaged in
recreational or other use of any hallucinogen or other illegal drug. So
I'm really going on half-remembered health-class stuff (the two or three
years in which 'Say No to Drugs' was drilled into our happy,
half-developed minds:).

Not necessarily. D-Lysergic acid diethylamide is metabolized into fat; the
variable consumption of fat as an energy reserve is causes flashbacks to
occur if the fat in question has LSD within.

LSD does distort the brain's electrical activity, causing synthesia ("see
sounds" and "hear colors"). In the 1940's through 70's there was a lot of
research and testing done on LSD; a company produced it for treatment of
schizophrenia, and it was recommended as a teaching tool for ingestation
for psychologists wishing to better understand various mental illnesses.

Which is why I'm glad to have stayed with hard sciences ... ;-)
