I'm new to the list, so I am wondering what qualifies as a lurker? I post
infrequently myself, often because I have nothing useful to say that hasn't
been said already. I believe in the old adage "Better to remain silent and be
thought a fool than open your mouth and prove it."

A lurker is simply anyone who posts infrequently or not at all,
being content to read the mail the list generates without replying
to it (as opposed to people like, for instance, me, who feel the
need to hit Reply even when they're reading through 5-year-old
logs :)

I must agree with Iridios. I find that it takes a while for me to
read thru
the list and most of the time, I will read an answer that already says
what
I would have said. So, I guess, my not taking up bandwidth with
repeating
things qualifies me as a lurker. :-)

And it showed in the list statistics last fall:)
Personally, I think that I'm (mostly) lurking around here at the moment
(compared to my record from the last year and a half, I'm being friggin'
silent:) because I'm not replying to stuff on the list more than once or
twice a week (while I used to average around four messages per day:)

How about people who lurk around while replying to very old posts? (Like, one
month old? ;))).
