Hey does anyone have rules for Lycanthrope? I'm going to have my party's
mage *contract* (hehe) this disease. I suppose I don't really need stats
cause well when he shifts I'm going to take control of him but depending on
what happens I may let him keep it and take control over when he changes
forms. Thanks.

Lycanthropy, in canon, doesn't exist. You'd probably want to look to
Shapeshifters to get an idea of what sort of abilities he'd have, however.

I do have some, following the already existing mechanics in the game for
something else. Question I would have is do you want it to be
"Werewolf-style Lycanthrope", or the "I'm an insane MF-style
Lycanthrope"?
Deciding on the viewpoint, it could be loads of fun to have played out.

Just looks in critters, IIRC there was one strain of HMHVV which would turn
humans in Loup Garou, whihc is french for werewolf.

Possession might be a good way to "simulate" lycanthropy. There could
easily be some sort of spirit that somehow can posses a character when the
moon is full, despite normal restrictions on possession, say via the "ritual
link" of a blood sample acquired when another possessed character / animal
bit him. The powers a possessed character had could also be very similar to
those of a werewolf.

I don't reccomend you infect a PC with that; it would kind of make them
unplayable (what with being "barely intelligent"). I would make
Lycantherope another version of HMHVV which leaves the patient able to
contuinually through the day and most nights (if you want it to conform to
legends, have it make the patient's index and middle finger the same
length). Under a full moon they change into a mindless wolf beast with
enhanced physical attributes and no sense of cause and effect.

Since most of my face never gets a chance to heal, I've got nothing to lose
in the looks department. My boss, at work, he asked me what I was doing
about the hole through my cheek that never heals. When I drink coffee, I
told him, I put two fingers over the hole so it won't leak.

Hmmm...interesting idea, Sebastian...

If you've got Prime Runners and you want to do
something like this, then you might be pleased to know
that book could finally come in handy for something.
Have a look at the back, at the four "nasty" types -
there's this ork kid there named Corey
Something-or-Other and he suffers from an affliction
similar to what Sebastian's talking about. You might
be able to base your lycanthrope (or whatever) on him.

Yesss...basically, IIRC, the Loup Garou is not a
werewolf (big surprise, considering that there are no
'true' werebeasts in SR) - what it is, in fact, is a
furry humanoid - a wolf-man, if anything. As Phil's
pointed out, they're barely intelligent. Also, they're
kinda peaceful, except for certain times of the month
(full moon, anyone? :) ) when they become extremely
aggressive and also much more powerful.

If you want a real werewolf, you're either going to
have to make the rules up yourself, or use something
you find on the net.

Btw, I do hope you're not planning on infecting the
character just for the hell of it - that's what it
sounded like from your original message. If that's not
your intention, then you might want to be a little bit
more careful with your phrasing next time. :)

That's another reason I suggested possesion. It is generally fully
reversable, is something PC's can deal with, and can lead to some intersting
adventures- tracking down a (posibally ancient, almost certainly unique)
spirit its a pobably more intersting than tracking down a clinic that can
treat HMHVV style lycanthropy. And just because the victim was a mage
doesn't mean the job will be easy- even moderate force free spirits can be
awsomely powerful, especially some of the ones with essence drain and
sorcery type powers.

I suppose I could have phrased that better. I'm not just doing this
randomly, it's a story line related thing. My PC's are just sitting in
Seattle with there thumbs up their butts not going anywhere so I was
thinking of infecting my mage with some type of virus. I read the Loup Garou
and that's just crappy to do to a PC so I'm going to make up my own stats,
similar to a classic werewolf. I was thinking of having them go to London to
find some secret society that is dedicated to controlling the desiese, not
just mindlessly killing anyone who has it. That way depending on how my PC
reacts throughout the adventure I can decide if I want to have him be able
to control the shifts or simply have them cure it out of him.
