I don't normally do stuff like this, but I wanted to plug the company I work
for (since it's a startup, and we need all the coverage we can get), and I
won't do it again.

http://www.yousoftware.com/

We do Macintosh software (first and foremost) and have recently started
doing plugins for Outlook. Last week, we released a virtual desktop manager
for OSX (not yet Tiger compatible).

Oh, and to bring this back to something SR related, I know there was a
Matrix OS, which wo me sounds like someone finally created that monopoly.
Was there any reference to who actually owns the IP to that? Also, any
further tidbits about how exactly the Matrix is gonna go away this time?

15. I will never employ any device with a digital countdown. If I find that
such a device is absolutely unavoidable, I will set it to activate when the
counter reaches 117 and the hero is just putting his plan into operation.

Actually, if I recall correctly, it's a standard, rather than a
monopoly that was established. A standard with some particularly dumb
design decisions, mind you, but a standard nonetheless. In real-world
terms, that'd be equivalent to declaring that the One True OS is a
(crappy) version of Linux (or BSD, or [pick your poison]), running on
some brand-new and incompatible but open architecture. The people who
worked on the initial designs (I don't have my books with me, so no
names, sorry) all died in *cough* *cough* car accidents (*cough*
*cough* *cough*) shortly thereafter.
As for how the Matrix is going down this time [watch out,
possible spoilers starting now], from what I hear about System
Failure, it looks like the aforementioned standard still suffers from
the same flaws whose presence in the pre-2029 architecture was the
very reason for its establishing: let an evil AI loose in the system
(this time it's Deus), and it all goes to hell in an ugly way.
