Concerning Super-Mage and his trusty quickened spell
"KillEverybodyThatIDon'tLikeWithin40Feet"

TR>1) Don't let them initiate any more, for the time being. How
TR>easy was it for them to initiate? If you say "easy", then I'd
TR>say the sammis can probably find a cut-rate beta clinic
TR>easily, too.

From the complaints of "Super powered" initiates I would say most GMs
seem to allow their Player Mages to become initiates to easily.. Our
group's mage spent 6 months realtime, 1 and a half years game time, 17
karma points and over 120 000 newyen just to become a level 0 initiate.
(He also took some annoying oath that forces him to wander about and
save children and only kill when its is *absolutely* necessary..)
It took several runs for the entire party (Paid by him) to help him find
a group.
This has tended to level out the group a little. By the time he came
back, the rest of the party was doing ok..

TR>2) How did they get the massive spell? Just learn it? If so,
TR>how? Spells that are obviously offensive are probably NOT
TR>going to be that easy to get.

Same mage went to a large prison complex just north of Johannesburg
(Our team runs in Southern Africa) and spent several months with a locked
up mage learning "Levitate Inanimate objects".. We lost one player
character there (Ok, so we straped handgranades to his hands and legs so
that we he woke up he blew the entire room.. He was sick anyway)
Needless to say, if the mage wants to learn any more spells, he can do
it himself...

Generally.. it is usually easy and a lot more fun to make the character
"work" for his/her "power" increase instead of just looking at the
book
and saying "Right, your have enough karma points.. Up you go.. and here
is a "death of anything bigger than a rat" spell as a congratulations
present.. Next!! Who wanted the Vindicator Minigun built into their
hand? You? Fine, just remember, you only have 20 000 rounds in your arm
so count those bullets carefully".

Yes?
