Just want to get in my 2 NuYen Chummers..

As far as modifying the SR rules to allow mages to use certian said
wares at a cost of KARMA- bad idea.. So, the mage can't cast spells as fast
as the Samurai can whip a few rounds from his smart gun. Too bad! That's why
hopefully you have some friends who are Sam's as well.. That's why it's more
than a one player game, and you try to cultivate allies amongst NPC's!!!

You hopefully "co-operate" while running the shadows and part of this
co-operation involves accepting that some people might (Gods forfend) be better
at some things than you are.. That's what is known as GAME BALANCE!! You might
not like it,you might even hate it- but if one class were so much more
powerful than the others- who would want to play the other classes.

Just saying that- You can't have your cake and eat it too!

Yes you can, if you are a munchkin.

Excuse me.
I thought the purpose of this folder was to discuss Shadowrun game mechanics,
et all.
My mistake.
I logged on with the intent of clarifying and expanding upon the ideas I posed
for discussion. Upon reading the responses however, I can see clearly that I
would be wasting my time. There are gamers on campus here who are possessed
of open minds, who won't blindly scream "Munchkin!" at any new idea. Goddess
forbid I violate this den of rank stupidity with another original thought. I
see no reason to return to this listserve.
My apologies to those who did respond in a mature fasion. Most especially, I
owe Herr Doom long overdue thanks for the last time this happened.

Mike-
I admit that a LOT of people here are extremely hard on any new ideas.
I suppose that is because they have seen too many ideas fly around about making
people gods. Personally, I feel that in any case, mages must pay some sort of
magic cost in getting cyberware and bioware. If people had responded in a more
reasonable fashion - the discussion could have been quite valuable.

Personally, I have not yet pounded out what I feel are good rules for
mages and bioware. What I do now is that mages do NOT lose essence for bioware
being added, but they DO lose magic rating. For purposes of the magic rating,
I take the current essence, and subtract the body index, and that determines the
magic rating just as essence does in the rules. This makes the magical healing
target numbers the same for mages and samurai if they have the same stuff, by
the rules, mages get hit once on the body cost, and once on the essence cost.

I have looked into a 50% body to essence cost, and a few other variants,
one of which looks quite good and works with much of the intricacy of the
cyberware rules for essence, but I see none that I am completely happy with.
Actually, that is why I wish I see more of stuff like yours. I disagree with
the idea - but I, and I am sure others as well, always find new ideas welcome.
=)
