No archtype is inherently any better than another. Period. They
are different, and have different strengths and weaknesses. Making direct
"power level" comparisons is more or less a fruitless waste of time.

AAAAAAHHHHH, but he was asking if people thought the BEGINNING Mage was better
than the BEGINNING Street Sam. I have to say, yes. The mage can: sling a mana
ball (at Force 5 kinda like an SMG or AR but Willpower is used to resist
damage, which is typically lower), summon an elemental (and the Street Sam
can't touch one of those unless it is materialized or he has a high willpower)
and the mage CAN equal the Street Sam in speed, power, and melee combat IF the
person who made the mage wants them too. Of course, Bioware and Cyberware and
Initiation kinda make them equal, but I'd have to go with a quote from one of
my players, when asked to make the most powerful character he could: "Well,
just don't let me be a mage. If I am, I'll create a character which could
split the world in half while taking Moderate Stun Drain."
