The +6 modifier to both the spell and drain target numbers kinda takes
care of that... Oh, and the +3 for casting through 3 Barrier spells, too.

You suddenly need 13s to hit the goon with your manabolt, and roll against
[(F/2)+6]S drain. Can you do both? A few times?

Ok, ok...

sorry to be here, but when I posted the (humorous) comment about Physads
vs sams vs mages, I intended to draw a straight, ending line on this
thread. I know that the turaround rate on this list is high, and so many
people (Hi new listmembers!) don't know the pains and the suffering :) we
had during the last years on ShadowRN. The holy FAQ (part II) already
tells us about not-so-welcomed threads, like What is Magik? and The
SuperAmmo debate. Maybe this thread should be added to the FAQ (who's the
mantainer, now?)

It is interesting, though, that the traffic on the list has a spark during
this debates, maybe is this what the people needs :) (please note the
smiley)

I suppose you missed the part where I said "spell locks". =)
Do you get a mod for casting through Barrier spells? *wishing I had my
rules handy* I know you get one if you try to cast through a mana
barrier, but a normal barrier? I remember the rules saying that the
spell "Barrier" does not stop magical effects, so I should think it
should swing both ways. I could see that if you were sustaining the
spell, you'd have that, but otherwise...?

I guess I did... I tend to reply before having read everything :/

You get a +1 modifier for *everything* that involves looking through a
Barrier spell. Physical barrier spells don't affect the actual spells, but
your magician will have the +1 for having to look through the barrier in
order to see the target. (Granted, in the book it says "-1" but that would
be silly.)

Barriers, per se, do not stop Astral entities (not even Mana Barrier).
That's what Wards are for.

OTH, if you've got a Barrier spell up, it manifests as a crackling wall
of energy. That, to me, would impose some penalties for seeing what's
outside the Barrier (or inside, if you're outside).
