I noticed alot of people saying no to mirrors.

Mirrors *can* be used.

"Mirrors work fine..." SRII p 130

and for a more in depth view check out p.150 first column 2nd
paragraph which starts off with

"Finally, what about mirrors?"

The short of it is yes you can cast via a mirror.
