Subject: MAGIC AND RIGGER QUESTIONS
Date: Mon, 2 Jun 1997 07:30:04 -0400
Hi boys & girl all over the net!

First the rigger q:
How do you know how many weight is allowed a drone to carry ? It is in the
stats? If so please tell us where to look because we're blind in texas!!

Magic q's:
1 An Iniciate can allocate all his magic pool to shielding? (to have for
example 12 dice to resist a spell (willpower 6 + 6 dice = 12) and the
spellcaster a TN of 12?)

2 I run a mage that has a +3 dice to ini quickened spell on her. How easy
is for another being with astral perception and sorcery skill to see that
quickened spell? Can she mask it?

3 I'm creating a new spell and the target must resist with the body att..
I's wondering if you have a way to calculate the body of object (i.e. a
predator, a sniper rifle, a door knob, a knife?

OK that's it!!!

See you

Hmm... I don't have the RBB with me, but if I recall right, Drones
have a CF-rating. Usually they assume 10 kg storage capacity per CF-rating.

An initiate has a shielding-pool that is equal to his grade. Whether
this shielding pool goes into the magic pool for one "big shielding
pool" (with the consequences you described) or whether it is seperate
(spellcasters TN is 7 instead of 12) is yet undecided. I'd prefer
the latter solution, because otherwise you just need a big magic
pool to completely protect your chummers from magic.

A quickened spell is astrally visible unless it is masked. An
initiate can mask a number of foci-rating or spell-force up to his
grade, so it depends on the force of the spell. Another way to hide
the spell is an astral quest with a rating equal to the force of the
spell.

Hmmm... Dunno, sorry....

That is how it works IIRC though teh shielding 'pool' is increased by teh
initiate's grade as well. But if teh mage is protecting his team as well
as himself it isn't too OTT.

E.g. Sorcery 6 Grade 2 equals SHielding pool of 8, but protecting himself
and his three friends the shielding pool only adds +2 Dice and +2TN for
each person on average, not too unbalancing.

The presence of a spell is automatically detected by astral perception
unless it is masked. However determining the exact type of spell will
require soem sort of assensing test with a number of successes needed:
E.g. 1 success determines type of spell i.e. Health
2 successes determines spel itself i.e. Increased reflexes
3+ successes gives all other info i.e. a +3 Reflexes spell at
force X

The TN to affect inanimate objects is based upon its level of technology
ie Natural materials TN:3, Computers TN: approx 8

Teh number of dice they getto resist with is more ambiguous however, (for
vehicles its the Body rating but for guns etc its a GM call based upon its
mass, size etc Barriers will most likely roll their barrier rating)

Have you checked the Rigger's Black Book? It might be in there, I don't
know.

Yep. He can do that.

Unless the mage masks the spell, it should be obvious from astral space.
That being said, the perceiving individual will probably have to make
some sort of test to determine what sort of spell or astral entity it may
be. Masking spells, however, is the GM's call. Some GM's allow people to
mask spells, others don't. Some don't even allow locked _spells_ to be
masked, just the spell lock.

Use the Object Resistance Table. It's in SR2 somewhere, in the Magic
chapter, I think. Since no-one else had a guess on the dice used for
resisting, there's a table showing the Barrier ratings of various
materials (wood, rubber, glass, steel, etc) in the chapter of the SR2
book on Barriers. You might use that.

Um, Body = Strength? I.e., it doesn't say anywhere how much weight a
drone can carry. There are only a few vehicles that list how much
weight they can carry/pull.

It`s in some stats only. 1 CF% Kg
Not the storage space, look at the description text.

Yup, correct for a single shielded target. Grimi page 45 shielding.

Fairly simple to detect, thats aura reading for.
Masking? Read the Astral Concealment on grimi page 97 and make your judgement
call.
I would say it can be done.

Use the object resistance table for that BBB page 130.
To resist use the barrier rating I would say.
Sure these make spells rather useless against high-tech toys like panzers and
so, but why not.
Better ideas?

Do you mean the amount of cargo a drone can carry, or how much a drone
weighs so you can carry it (the drone) in something else?

Those would probably use twice their Barrier Rating to resist (see SRII
page 98 below the Barrier Effect Table), or their Object Resistance (SRII
page 130). This would be up to the spell designer, and you could even say
they use the higher of the two.

I meant the amount of cargo a drone can carry. Our rigger has a very
malicious ideas and we would like to see if they are possible.

Next time I would try to be more specific on my questions

Thanks for your help
