I can understand wanting to avoid offense, but I think I'll work on it
anyway. Besides, the idea of a Catholic Priest who has spirits of man
help him clean the church seems like a great image to me.

Send me info... this sounds cool.

Of course it was a generalization. I can see a Griffin Shaman being very
commanding, for example.

True, but even those who practiced magic in his name had certain acts
associated with them. Healing is popular, but when was the last saint you
heard about who sent a bolt of fire at his enemies?

Honestly can't say I know what any of the saints were 'famous' for, so I'll
keep zipped. Just as an aside though, since we dont want to get "that"
thread started again, I always thought the wierdest thing about the Bible,
was the conflict and smiting themes of the Old Testament suddenly giving way
to the much more peaceful NewT. Oh well.

Back on SR, you touch on one of the shamanistic inconsistencies. Not all
cultures/people see these animals or whatever the same way. For instance, go
and ask your average Joe on the street what he thinks of bears. Chances are
you'll get the big dangerous man-eater response rather than a great healing
symbol.

True, and I think that would lead to a lot of variations _if_ the Native
American theory hadn't wormed its way into magical theory first. That
probably cut out a lot, simply because the people who cared about it
"knew" that people who followed Bear were healers. Then, any person
claiming to be a Bear Shaman, but being really destructive, would be
labeled toxic.

That is only the tip of the iceberg to say the least. The last pair of
weekend games dealt with the Titanic. In the first the group found themselves
being flung back in time (they though it was a quest) by the Sphinx to stop
Pharaoh from putting an artifact on board the Titanic someplace where he could
easily get his hands on it many years later. The group managed to put the
artifact someplace where they knew the location and Pharaoh did not. The next
game (last night) was a race to get to the Titanic, and the group did make it
their by only a matter of some thirty minutes time.

Yup, the times are only now getting really interesting in the game here right
now. And boy do some of the guys hate me for it right now (albeit in a good
way ... Tinner, is this the feeling you get from the players in your gaming
group ?).

Hehehehe....
one of NOTHING! They have THE largest.
John Paul is a noted expert on High Renaissance Mysticism in academic
circles.
You should read some of the Jesuit articles debating early christian
animism.
There is more to the Catholic faith than strange hats, huge
bureaucracies, and weird Traditions.
