Well, this is an easy one to answer. The answer is that you missed
something. Two rather big somethings, actually.
1st: For an adept to follow the Magician's Adept path (as it is called),
which is neccessary if said adept wants to take any points of magical
ability, it is actually an A priority, not a B.
2nd: Said Magicians Path adept has NO access to the astral plane. None
whatsoever. No perception, and no projection. He can buy, like any other
adept, the astral perception power for 2 power points, but he can NEVER
learn how to project, at least per canon (some house rules have modified
this, of course). As a player of a Magicians Path adept, let me tell you,
this is a serious limitation. Derek, my adept, finially learned how to
perceive after his third initiation, but the lack of projection is a
serious lack.
Anyways, though they might seem munchkin prone at first glance, if you are
looking to make a munchkin character, there are much more cost effective
ways to do so (Read full mage with alpha cyber and cultured bio, both
perfectly acceptable under SR3 canon. The loss of essence for the cyber
and bio is less than the equivalent cost of adept abilities, plus you get
astral projection)
Thats a debate for another time, though
