Now, to make things interesting...
Pattern magic can be used on anything with a name. There are even ED
examples of nations being used in pattern magic. If something as abstract
as a nation has a pattern, then it makes sense that something like a
matrix program would have a pattern. (Actually, it already does, it's just
called program code. A decker in the 4th world would be a fine example of
Clarck's third law of technology.) In fact, I would wager that the matrix
as a whole could have a pattern, and a sufficiently powerful mage could
weave a few threads into that.
