I don't know If I agree with that last part. There is a higher target number
for detecting things on another plane. The power works like one of the spells
(magic sense I think - Damn I wish I had my books on a CD). Of course you'd also
need to pierce any masking.

ah, i missed that one. yes i would agree with you, but it does not say anything
about higher target numbers. i think that it would be the same, unless the being
is masked. i would add the being's initiate rating/spirit rating to any TN for
this. double if the being is actively masking.

or, maybe because the power is automatic just have both make an opposed test,
higher successes wins.

Magic Sense. It's in awakenings, and was rerprinted in MITS.

I would say use the appropriate target number from the detection
spell table (anything magical with a physical component is
considered to be on the physical plane).

As for masking, this should be resolved as normal before making
the perception test.

In either case, it would be automatic. The kind of information you
get should be based on the assensing table.

And as to the question of spirits and astrally projecting beings?
They are magical by definition. It sense them.
