You know I have to point out here that it was never necessary to spend
thousands of dollars on cards to beat these weenies. I only ever spent
$320 on MTG ans that was because my first $180 of cards were stolen
out of my car with $250 worth of text books and some other stuff.

How did I fare against these custom decks of doom with my piddly
collection? Well I won slightly better than half of my games. Why? All
of those unbeatable decks relied on 3 or 4 card setups. My decks never
needed more than 2 things to happen for me to win. Sure my "winning"
strategy wasn't as foolproof as theirs but it was far easier to reach.

You may ask why I am bothering to write this. Well cause I'm tired of
seeing a game that I liked very much get stomped on because people
don't like the way some of the other players treat it. This would be
the same as saying I'm not playing Shadowrun because no one is using
my house rules. Also cause I havn't been able to get anyone to play
with me in about 2 years when all my friends "realized" their
addictions and stopped playing, so I guess I'm grumpy.

Well, to my mind that's about a hundred bucks too much(Losing the cards
doesn't count, you didn't have much control over that). I traded a $25 gift
certificate to one of my friends for 200 Unlimited Edition cards, and spent a
total of $45 bucks - $8 of which was spent on a starter with a hole drilled
through it for a closed universe competition. And I won better than half my
games. But I got tired of sitting down with players that had decks thicker
than the entire Encyclopaedia Britannica! The game was infinitely more fun
when ante didn't worry you, and there weren't anyt cards worth more than 10
bucks. (And I quote: "Dammit! Not ANOTHER Mox!!! <toss>)

Sounds VERY familiar Steven ... I sympathize with you for I've been through
that effect more than once ... many times.
