While playing a game, a friend of mine was using a new character
and also a magic user. He had never cast a spell before this game, so he
decides to. Two questions arrised. If he casts a treat spell, he says
that the character being treated must roll thier body dice to see if
their body resists the spell, is that right or dos the mage just cast and
resist drain and the person is healed. He says that you must roll the
body dice because if you put force points into a spell it must have an
opposing test. There is no explanation in the SRII book nor the GrimoireII.
Also, If you get an initiative of 21 and then you get shot, doing a
serious wound, does the effects listed on the sheet take effect now or
next turn?

Neg..This is not the way a treat Spell works..

This is correct..

I am not sure exactly what you mean by Force Points..If you are talking
about the Force of the spell then my answer is the one thing doesn't
really have anything to do with the number the TN formula is: 8-Essence
of the one to be treated..If you are talking about real Fource Points
then my answer is: They are only used in Character Creation..

If it happens BEFORE your first turn at 21 then the modifier takes affect
IMEDIATELY..

There is not roll made by the target of a Treat spell since Treat is not a
resisted spell. All resisted spells have an [R] listed at the end of the
target number. See any combat spell for an example.

He is incorrect. Many spells do not have opposing test. Only spells that
affect a person against their will or cause damage have opposing test.

All target number modifiers take place immediately, but the Initiative modifier
does not apply until you roll initiative for the next turn.

No, the resistance test need not be made. I'm pretty sure that the spell
requires a voluntary subject, but I'm not positive on that one. Now if
the mage were trying to kill a corp suicide squad member who would rather
die than be treated, well, then perhaps in that odd instance a resistance
test could be allowed.
As to needing something to oppose the test, there are plenty of spells
that are not opposed by anything as they are being cast (barrier spells,
magic fingers, etc.)
