Does everyone in 2060 use maglocks all the time? They cost 75 nuyen, which
might be a lot for some people. Does anyone use oldfashioned tumbler locks
like we have now? And if they do, does anyone know how to pick them any
more? What about bolts or latches?

I can now answer something I know for fact. YES!!!
Dead bolts, Masterlocks, they still exsist in the 60s.
Aint nothing worse then being told to open the case, whip out your maglock
passkey, and see a blue and silver Masterlock dangling on a chain.
(And believe the commericals, they're still locked after you shoot them.)

In Cybertechnology (and I think Man & Machine) there's a figure-tip
smartlock-pick device for just such occasions. So while the majority of
people might use Mags, expect an old-timer or poor man to use a tumber & key
locking device.

Old fashioned locks would probably be just about everywhere.... especially
in older neighborhoods (though that doesn't mean they'd be limited to just
residential use)

Also, electronic locks (maglocks and card readers) will need access to a
power source (though they probably have a backup installed in them) and
possibly (most likely) matrix access.

Back in the days of SR1, wasn't there something in the main rulebook that
said you were to use the Stealth (Urban) skill for picking non electronic
locks?

I know that we were almost tripped up more than once when a tumbler lock
suddenly appeared on a run. I can't see any reason at all why they wouldn't
still be used. In fact I was reading an old module (Silver Angel I think)
in which they use Maglocks, dead bolts, and padlocks all at various places.
As well as a good old fashioned bar accross the door (actually that last ne
was in Dreamchipper).

They don't need a great deal of power by any stretch. I've had an
electronic lock on my office door for years, it runs on a nine volt battery
and I have changed it once in the five years I've used it and it wasn't
fresh when I got here. Granted it's not a Maglock, but as power demands
increase the efficiency and relative size of batteries would increase as
well I would think.

Works for me.
