Something that's been pointed out to me (not on this list)
is the fact that martial arts are very diverse. Karate
taught in one part of the world may be very different from
karate taught in another part of the world. Small
variations even exist from instructor to instructor within
the same area. Most Sensais know a variety of martial arts
and will sometimes transfer a good move from one system to

As you've found out, what DM has put together conflicts
with your personal experience. Maybe DM can figure out a
way to make each style a little flexible. Or maybe in your
game you can change it to suit your tastes. It's very hard
to take everything in RL into account when putting any
system together for a game.
