Subject: Matrix Movement Question

How does matrix movement work in a combat-turn, I couldn't find anything
in the book on the subject except :

"Matrix movement is instantly except when you're passing a node."

OK, but what does this mean, what does it take to travel from one node to
the next ? A free action ? A complex action ? What ? or is it really
instantly and can a decker just hop through a system in a nanosecond ?

when there's IC in the node then it's pretty obvious, defeat the IC and
on your way you are. But what if there's no IC or better what if you're
trying to run away from the IC. The book says that you have outrun IC
when you're more then two nodes away from it. There has to be some kind
of system to determine speed in the matrix.

So please enlighten me on this subject.

In the second SR video game for the Sega Genesis, travel to each
node is pretty much instantaneous. That is also how we have played
in when we run. If you are travelling at the speed of an electrical
impulse along a circuit path, then you are travelling pretty darn
quickly.

You have a really good point. The time that it usually takes to go
from each node should be in the real time. Because it wouldn't take
that long in reality. Does anyone have any helpful tips ant wining the
Sega version of Shadowrun??

Get a datajack. Most of the money is in the matrix. If you do not,
nuyen will be very hard to come by. And get your rep up. All sorts of
freebies await those who have high reps.

Hold on a mo' -- are you talking about the RPG or the video game
here? Honestly, it sounds more like the video game -- in role-playing,
that type of generalization is likely to get you killed.
Ignoring for a moment the oft-forgotten fact that most GM's
imagine their worlds differently from each other, it really isn't true
that nuyen is only avaliable if you have a datajack. Based on the novels
(which are as close to "official reality" as we'd ever want to get),
deckers of any competence are pretty rare -- and you have to be a _damned_
good decker to actually get any money transferred except as payment for
other duties.
Also, nothing is every free, not matter what your reputation. Or
if it is free, don't trust it...that kid who looks like the "fan"
archetype could well be in the employ of your worst enemy.

Relax friend. He was refering to the video game. In the video game,
no one can do much of anything without a data-jack, even the shaman
character. Unless of course, you want to do runs for 55-60 nuyen a
shot. Takes for fraggin' ever!!!

Sorry I did not clarify myself. I was speaking of the Sega game.
