Subject: Matrix question: is it all about hardware?

I always thought that being a decker is not about the equipment that you
carry, but the skills that you have, but...:

when using the optional rulen out of Matrix that allows you to augment
one of your persona by half upon decreasing another one, I'm having
trouble trying to stop one of my players.
He increases his Masking persona so that his detection factor becomes
relatively high, that he is able to even walk through a red host without
being seen.

I use to believe that it was pretty hard playing a decker, but reading
this rule and experiencing its effects, it all seem to come down to some
serious/powerful hardware and that it!?

Any comments?

Yes, that's it.Unless he's an otaku hardware and a
good decking skill is all that is needed. But who
needs a skill when he's got a detection factor of 12?
If you want to counter that try to lay traps and use
unorthodox system designs (vanishing sans and the
like) so that you force him to make many rolls and so
raise his tally.Roleplay what he sees at the matrix
and so you can bet your @#$ (for all you dirty
language concerned citizens out there) that he will
make those rolls.Remember time is on your side!
