What do I do now?

We were on a run a couple days ago... our group is walking into a
warehouse to get a crate with something valuable in it... so our mage
uses an Acid spell to get through the door without setting off the
alarms. We go in and find the correct crate (which we found by
having our vampire streetsam mistform around until he found it). So
we are gathered around the crate when all of a sudden a cybermancy'd
guy breaks out of a CRATE (he was hidden in there). He has a minigun
in his cyberarm and promptly puts 6 rounds into ME. (65 boxes of
damage, fun fun fun.)

NO FAIR!!! :)

Now he has a mage that is offering to do a magical ritual to bring me
back from the dead... for 500,000 =Y=...

I agree!
It's not possible to take 65 boxes of damage from 6 rounds.
Each round is capable of doing D (I assume), and you'd have to fail to stage
it down at all to take the full 60.

If he was firing burst, then it should have done a max of 10 boxes
anyway.....

You should ask him a few questions. One. how did your vampire (munchkin
character, but thats a different story) miss this guy in a crate. Second,
what is his ruling on multiple deadly wounds. We have a house rule that
if you take two deadly wounds (the equivalent of 20 wound boxes), you
cannot be brought back from the dead. Thirdly, didn't your armour help at
all (he may be using APDS rounds, and he also might be using the heavy
minigun, the Vanquisher).

Though, in retrospect, I think it may be his (somewhat silly way) of
telling you "You're dead, but here is a deal to bring you back". He
probably just bought the Cybermancy book, and wants to try some of the
stuff out.

|Fuck. What's the big deal?

It's the old censorship thing. (I think)
That's why my .sig is as it is. A little protest, if you will.

It was originally a few extra lines of expletives that the censorship bill
would forbid......

Under base SR2 rules you cannot take more than a Deadly wound from any
single attack. FoF adds the overdamage rule, but that hardly makes any
difference. It does make it possible to die from a single shot, but the
chances of that happening are rather slim with shadowrunners as the
targets.

The way we handle this (house rules alert!) is to use the SR2 rule of
first comparing successes and only then staging the damage. If there are
any successes that would push the damage over Deadly, we start again at
Light and apply that as overflow.

Nifty! I'm sure you won't mind if I place that before my group.
Currently we just add extra block for every 2 successes over deadly.

Oh, and just because I'm proud of the roll, how does 11 successes
sound with a direct hit with a grenade. Considering the fact that I
was moderately wounded (+3) didn't help matters. After all how many
times can you roll off seven dice 38, 27, 14, 7, 5, 5, 1. All in all
the individual suffered 15D+5. Not a solitry success, the fact that
his invisible mage friend was next to him sweetened the deal. That
makes it 7 invisible mages, that my character has 'removed from the
equation' <bright, sunny day. Big grin. Squint due to sleep depraved

Maybe I'm missing something, but the Vindicator Minigun fires FA and does 7S damage. By
SRII, that means six rds equals a 13 Power at a 1 over Deadly damage (SRII, pg.92-93) so
essentially if you failed to stage down any damage, you'd have taken a hit at 1 box over
deadly, not counting any extra successes the Sam got compared to you. I don't understand
the 65 bxs of damage.:-(

I agree here, how did the vampire sammy ( a bit munchinkized) miss him, he's
be a little obvious. Also how did you take 65 boxes from 6 rounds, tha 2
bursts if it was jsut 6 rounds. (The minigun has a fixed ROF anyway, not
just 6 rounds) What about armor? Sounds like he just wants you dead,
besides if you took 45 boxes of overflow damage you'd be a smear on the floor.

It has a fixed rate yes, but you could just aim the rest of the house away
from the target. (6 shots at him, 9 somewhere else) By the SR rules, you
get target # penalty for firing 6 bullets at the target, and who cares about
the rest. This is kind of cheesy, but allowable by the rules. This technique
was developed by one of my players, kernal, who uses the vindicator quite
often. (more than I'd like :)
