Having recently read Idoru, I started thinking about the power of
media in SR. (Um, yeah, I still haven't read Shadowbeat, which I
guess deals with that, ok?).

The cyberpunk books by William Gibson shows an extremely powerful
media. It is a world where, if you get arrested as a shadowrunner,
some show host or lawyer will aproach you, ask for exclusive rights
and cooperation in return for star lawyers (almost guaranteed to walk
free) and a lifestyle beyond imagination.. until your story is no
longer interesting, in which case you fall.. a long, long fall.

Depends who you are, of course.. they have media analysts, deckers,
on the trace of persons which is 'marketable' all the time. If you're
one of those, you play your cards right, you've got it made.

How much does this affect 'normal' shadowrun?

BTW is it something of a 'cucumber season' on the list now? I'm not
sure if that's a 'regular' expression.. it means 'the season when
cucumber pricing gets to the heaadlines', that is, there's not much
really happening.

That's funny, I just finished reading that book (again) yesterday...

And get blackmailed by the people you originally worked for
(which in the book was another TV show, one whose whole reason
for existence was making and breaking stars).

Not much, I would guess. The media in SR is not as powerful as
in Idoru, I feel, and I don't picture them as focusing on
shadowrunners. For one thing, if you're a shadowrunner and
continually get into the spotlight, you won't be a shadowrunner
for very long. Few Mr. Johnsons would want a meet with you
when there's a camera crew coming along :)

The list is quite busy, IMHO... I've definitely seen a LOT worse,
like only 10 or 20 posts a day...
