Meine Kameraden:

Ne'er did I suspect that my mere re-emergence from the obscuring
mists of history would engender such hullabaloo. In truth, I was taken
aback at the revelation that there are yet so many amongst the collected
host gathered here which are yet capable of summoning to mind memories of
the time I had spent with you so long hence.

More curious still, to my mind, is that some are skeptical as to
whe'er or not I represent the genuine article. Previous to launching any
efforts to corroborate my claims of legitimacy, I would inquire as to what
manner of proof would prove sufficient for such purposes?

Perhaps submittal of a historical treatise with regards to some foci
of contention, or mayhaps a foray into the rhetorical wilderness of matters
philosophical?

As to the other questions:

I. IMNSVYNOHO

IMNSVYNOHO = In My Not So Very Yet Nevertheless Occasionally Humble Opinion

[ Originally appeared in a private missive to The Reverend (also of bygone
ShadowRN fame) with intent to indirectly illustrate the excesses of what
was then (years hence) a new tendency to rely upon the utilization of
abbreviations (in my judgement to excess) of frequent but non-idiomatic
'net phrases. Also of similar fame are RaSFoYLiP, AnFiPoThaWPBIA, and
TOLM WAPPERS.]

II. Where have I been?

I have always been here. So long someone is remembered, they are with you.

III. The Dark Tower Hlidskjalf

Hlidskjalf's obsidian foundation still exists, yet the years intervening
since its inception have reduced the venerable Tower to such a profound and
advanced state of antiquated disrepair that I am reticent to erect it with
my current ISP. I am currently of a mind to refurbish Hlidskjalf's stygian
environs, but such enterprises demand a temporal expenditure of exorbitant
magnitude.

IV. The Signs

As to the mythical portents attributed to my homecoming, these were alluded
to long ago, e'en in the very verse of what would constitute one of my
final contributions to ShadowRN in the course of that era:

(Verse 6)
I met a girl who made me smile
And I asked her to stay a while
But she just numbly turned away
So, I ftp'd to the ancient node
Where had been the wisdom of ages stowed
But the SysOp said the files couldn't stay...
And all on the 'net the mailers screamed
The MUDers cried and the IRCers dreamed
But not a word was posted
The servers all were toasted
And the three men I admire then and now
Fearless Leader, Doom, and Jai Tao,
Slipped away--I don't know how
The day the admin resigned
And they were singing...

Bye Bye Dark Lord on High,
Tried t' hyper to alt.cyber but found it too dry
Them good ol' boys were writin' rules on the fly
Singing "This'll be the day that I die,
This'll be the day that I die."

[ scribed after "ShadowManiacs" when an impetuous Hayden threw down the
guantlet, challenging (albeit jokingly) me to transform "American Pie"
-- a remembrance which prompts me to query: Where /is/ Hayden? ]

Oh vanished in Early 1996.
He popped his head 'round the door this spring though, bringing forth once
more the revelations of apocalypse.

No-one's heard anything from JD Falk since he left in early '96.

That makes sense in a twisted way. My birth was the death of Beatles and
Star Trek and the year I join the list turns out to be the year of great
departure.

And at this time the four horsemen were visited upon ShadowRN
There Spike who brought forth post trimmings
Then came forth MC23 who brought forth flames
Then came forth Bull who brought forth off topic
And lastly there was Dvixen who brought forth death to threads.

Or something like that

Actually, he didn't really drop his head in the door (Wasn't it Spring
1997?), he mostly just spammed us with stuff about the decryption project
thingy that's ongoing.

I talked to him.. hrmm.. awhile back. Just a "Hey how's it going" type thing.

Why? The THREE that were first are something of a legend. True, Hayden
and JD aren't quite as well known, simply because their style wasn't quite
as distinctive as yours. I've never known anyone, not even those full-time
Renaissance renactment sorts to use more "archaic" English words in a
single sentence. And in an era where "net-speak" is almost common and
proper spelling and grammar aren't always used (even by me, simply for
expedience), your style leaps out from the masses.

Hey, do it anyway. I'm sure the entire list will get a kick out of it.

Thanks. I'll try to remember that.

I vaguely remember The Reverend, but only the name. And I agree, I tend to
dislike the usage even of BTW, ROTFL and so on.

>II. Where have I been?
>

True enough. But the question still stands, where have you been? Yes, you
have been wiht those of us that can remember you, but what about your
mundane physical presence? Where has that been? Where has your presence
upon the list been? And further, what provoked your return? Myself, sheer
boredom. Perhaps you are intruiged as to what Shadowrun, Third Edition
holds in store for the Shadowrun community?

>[ scribed after "ShadowManiacs" when an impetuous Hayden threw down the

Hey, I remember that I believe. If my aging memory holds, did not several
others take up the challenge also? And does anyone still have a copy of
the ShadowManiacs song? (written back when that show was new I do believe)

Haven't a clue myself. My own inclination is that he lurks, sort of like
God watching his clocks, always watching but rarely if ever showing his
presence.

Now THAT'S that .sig I remembered. Another of my questions still goes
unanswered; will you be making a return to ShadowTK? You would fit in
perfect with Avenger and Paul J. Adam and I'm positive you/we could find a
way to reintegrate any of the old PCs that you may choose to retain and
reintroduce. An invitation to TK is open, it's yours for the taking.

*sigh*

This is pretty cool.

Well, some of us (myself included) were not around when last you graced the list
with your presence, so we were without past reference to which could compare
your most recent dissertations and discussions. Without frame of reference, we
were given to varying amounts of disbelief (since some had heard little about
your person save your status as a "legendary" member of the list). Shock,
perhaps, might be to blame. It also seemed suspicious that no response had been
made by your person since your recent re-emergence (as you put it), despite the
"hullabaloo" made over it. I was willing to give it until this afternoon, lest
you refrain from checking electronic correspondence over the weekend. My
curiosity sated, I'll endeavour not to intrude upon your privacy further:)

Not necessary (for myself, at the very least), I assure you. This message was
confirmation enough for me.

Yep, several people took up the challenge... After Hayden did Shadowmaniacs,
I did an off-hand post saying "Can you do American Pie, too?". He laughed,
and offered it up for general consumption. Several people put up their
attempts, and the Doc's was the best.

Recently? No. Did I read it when I re-upped six months ago or so? Yup.
I laughed at the song then too, I just didn't remember it yesterday. It's
a part of getting old, you get Part-Timers syndrome; you only remember part
of the things part of the time. ;-)

But what do you mean "constantly annoyed with the FAQ and it's contents"?
I don't think I've cited the FAQ in my entire time back. Sure, I'm
constantly annoyed by certain people and discussion threads, but the FAQ?
Mayhaps you have me confused with someone else Lady Dvixen, for it is not
me to whom you refer, forsooth.
