Ok it looks like it was some sort of horror that took over a mage when
said mage was looking for a cure for awakened leprosy (I think that's what
the disease was, could be wrong and I'm too lazy to go get my book). The
mage pretty much invited it in, Mink and her kind were created to keep said
mage alive by stealing the life force of the dying (their spirits?essence?
I'm not too sure, but I'm fairly certain they stayed away from heavily
cybered people). Hope this helped.

If you're referring to Mink from the Mink and Monk duo in the novels,
you should really read Who Hunts the Hunter for more detail on her. I
won't say more due to spoilers. :o)
