I have a couple matrix questions which have bothered me since the advent
of SR3. Maybe these have been answered before. i dunno.

First, how much damage do Black Hammer and Killjoy do? Is it based off
of whatever host you're in?

Second, what the heck happened to Trace IC???

Agh!

The power of their attack equals their program rating. As for the level of
the attack, that equals the color of the system (Blue = L, Green = M, Orange =
S, Red = D).

Trace IC still exists.

Since thier effects are "identical to black IC", and no dmage cose is
given, I'd say yes. I think that would be M for bkue and gren hosts, and
s for higher rated hosts.

:Second, what the heck happened to Trace IC???

Its not in SR3, maybe becasue it is complex and requires special
rules, and maybe because its function seems dubious (turning an "ip"
adress into the physical location of the decker...) But then they DID put
in the track utility, which uses the same rules...
I for one don't miss it- a "tracer" low in the security sheave ends up
ocuupieng way to much of the deckers attention, and effectively ends the
run. If a decker apears, you've done something wrong, and so its OK for
them to have a chance to nail your (physical) butt.

It would appear so ...

>Second, what the heck happened to Trace IC???

SR3's Matrix section is a stripped down matrix system and so somethings
got left out ... apparently Trace IC is one of them. Trace IC can still
be found in (and used) VR2.0

Power Rating is equal to Program/Form (Otaku) rating in both cases, last I
checked. Damage was "Lethal" in both cases, with Killjoy doing "Mental
Damage" and Blackhammer doing "Physical Damage."

As for the "attack dice" (were this IC and not a program), that is the system
rating doing the dice rolling. So, if you are in an Orange-5, the Black IC
would roll 5 dice against the character (target number would be either Bod or
Evasion last I checked, but don't quote me on that one).

If it is a program being used by a decker, then the decker uses his/her
Computers skill, plus any Hacking Pool dice they are able to do so with.

Have no idea, will have to look that one up again. Last I knew, it was still
there...

According to Glenn Royer, at 10:14 on 22 Jan 99, the word on
the street was...

The Blacck Hammer description in VR2.0 (p. 98) says that "its effects are
identical to those of lethal black IC," and this same line appears on page
221 of SR3. Looking at page 48 of VR 2.0 or page 230 of SR3, under the
heading Lethal Black IC it says that damage for that is Moderate on a blue
or green system, and Serious on an orange or red host. The same goes for
Killjoy, except damage is Stun.

> Second, what the heck happened to Trace IC???

It's ... erm ... not in SR3. However, Virtual realities 2.0 (which has
essentially the same rules as SR3, except with some more stuff) does have
rules for Trace on pages 45 to 47. Probably, it was left out of SR3
because it takes up almost 3 pages (2 without the illustrations) in that
book, and there was no room for that in SR3.

Care to tell us the base damage, K? (Hint- it is L,M,S, or D, but the
program description does not say which- just that it is "the same as Black
IC").

Well, checking Lone Star led to the (pre-VR2) damage, which didn't use stages,
just the 1 box of damage per net sucess the program/decker gets in the test.
Since they changed the rules though, maybe it should come in seperate prog-
multipliers for the various stages, like attack.
