Ok, I've had MitS for a bit (got it this afternoon), and I've flipped
through it. I must say, I like the book a lot... very well done from a
game standpoint.

But unremittingly dull. You read it, say "Hmm, that's interesting", and go
on with things. Even Rigger 2 and VR2, books dealing with things I'm not
fond of, had a fictive element, something that made them exciting and
immersive. Magic in the Shadows reads like a textbook... it provides the
information, but the motivation for reading it won't be enjoyment of it's
art, but desire for it's contents.

Nexx's Ratings:
Content: A. It gives some great, flexible, rules, allowing you to play
almost any kind of magician you may want, and providing a simple framework
for incorporating others.
Craft: C. It does the job, conveys the info without making you scratch
your head and say "What the hell does that sentence mean??", but you don't
precisely devour the words.
