Maybe its just me, or the way I twiddle, or I'm reading this wrong,
but when I try it, my thumbs hit. Is this the point?

That'll happen if you don't change the levels at which your two thumbs
'twiddle'. Try making one circle a little bit lower than the other so
they don't hit when they intersect. It does mean you're doing something
right, however:)
