I'm guessing he means the command module of one of the large freight trucks
from RBB. I can't remember the actual name of the truck, the Conastoga,
maybe (oddly enough, I don't have the book at work - must be catching ;-))
but it was designed to have several powered cargo containers pulled by a
"command module". As to how big it is, without my book I can only estimate
that it's Frickin' 'Uge (tm).

It is the Nordkapp-Conestoga "Bergen" (Articulated Vehicle) Command
Module. When connected with Cargo Modules of the same manufacturer,
it controls a "road train". Think of it as the "Tractor" of a
Tractor-Trailer set up, only this one pulls more (up to 4 or 5?)
trailers.

Not as a whole train. But you might be able to squeeze the Command
Module into one of the outlying districts. Probably only with permits
and traffic control escorts. And there is no way, IMO, that anyone
will be able to sneak one anywhere.

I don't think that's accurate at all. I regularly see the double bottom
trucks on city streets, and recently cargo haulers have been using three
in line trailers for interstate transport. Remember that the road train
segments all have independent traction and steering controls overseen by
the lead unit. In practice it would have nearly the same maneuverability
as if the segments were individual trucks.

IMO, the more trailers that are added, the larger the turn radius
would be. Sure they would be fine on the main through streets,
especially if the main through is also a main highway. But take one
of these down the side streets and you start asking for trouble.

More than likely. Cities that are supported by road trains have
transfer stations. Large vehicular lots with warehouses and garages.
The trains stop and unload at the stations then smaller individual
trucks pick up the cargo and take them to their destination.

In a trip I took down south (usa) my family and I
noticed Semi Trucks had 3 full sized trailors they
pulled behind them... We had never seen them in
Michigan and I later found out that it is illegal in
Michigan (at least the Detroit area) for Semis to pull
more than 2 trailors. There may be a limitation in
Seattle like that...

True, but the impression I got for this vehicle is that it is considerably
larger than today's standard tractor units. There are a couple other freight
hauling rigs in RBB that seemed to be the "standard" size, similar to
today's rigs, but the Bergen seemed to be considerably larger. I can't
remember if the book actually says so, but the impression I got was of a
completely massive vehicle whose width, height, and especially weight would
give it problems on many city streets. It could certainly get into a
warehouse district, however, and probably wouldn't even look too out of
place. YM, of course, MV.

The command module is the "drivey" part of the Bergen land-train. Going by
the piccy in RBB it is around 2 stories tall :)

In the novel "ShadowPlay" a Bergen train is encoutered on the highway. The
truck was fully computer controlled, barrelling along a 200kph, with bugger
all in the way of lights.

For some scale, think of the thing as being around teh same size as the
trucks usd in Open-cut mining. You know, the truck Jackie Chan drives at the
end of "Mr Nice Guy"
