One of Gibson's books is called "Mona Lisa
Overdrive", and I have also seen
references to the term in other pieces
of cyberpunk fiction. It seems to mean
"novice" or "newbie" or something.

Anyone have any idea what the real meaning
is and where the term originated?

The title refers at least in part to one of the main characters, who's
called Mona Lisa, but usually just Mona.
