So I was poking around a bit last night in amongst my
SR3 books and was (and have been for a good while)
toying with the idea of a blind mage.

I was reading through the section on Conjuring though,
and suddenly realized that basically everything in
that section are Exclusive Actions. "Oops" I thought.

Then it struck me though: I don't think conjuring
actually requires being able to see. I just wanted to
put this particular question to the list to check if
I'm totally off base, or if it actually works like
that.

So: Can a blind mage even use the conjuring skill?

Well, it might be difficult for a Hermetic mage to draw the circle required,
and I shudder to contemplate the size of a Force-6 Conjuring Library in
Braille... but other than that, I don't see any reason why sight would be
required. (Of course, I personally hate mages because of all the hoopla
needed to summon - not that any of my shamans ever summoned a spirit lol -
so my memories are just the teensiest bit fuzzy about this)

I'd say there's no problem with this. You don't need to be able to see
in order to cast spells (sure, LOS ones are going to be difficult, but
anything with Touch range is doable, for example) so IMO you can conjure
without being able to see.

Well, the LOS is what astral perception is for (as
most actual spell-casting isn't exclusive), but I was
just wondering if anyone else had noted the apparent
absence of and "you need line of sight" for the
conjuring.

I suppose that since you're using the
name/formula/whatever of the spirit/elemental, that
serves as the magical link you need...

Ah well... more skill points to spend ;)
