Actually, my idea for the automapper was more of an outgrowth from
my quest to find an alternative to the combat computer. This is what i
figure so far:

The combat computer consists essentially of 3 parts: the processor,
program, and input/output devices.

Processor:
This has to be fairly heavy duty, as the ammount of calculations
required to keep track of all the essential data on about 21 targets
(the number a character with cybereyes, cyberears, a orientation
system, lvl 1 combat computer and an intelligence of 8 can track at
once) is simply staggering. Combine that with the tactical expert
system, and it expands even more so. So, that means that a great deal
of the essence loss for combat computers is in the processing power.
However, according to several sources, regular computers are much less
powerful than a cyberdeck, and even the hottest tortoises can only
equate to an MPCP rating of 4. So, to me, at least, that means that a
cranial MPCP 4 with a math coprocessor should be able to run any
programs neccessary for the combat computer. Which brings me to:

Programs.
The combat computer program consists essentially of target
tracking, threat evaluation, and the tactical expert system. To me,
the target tracking gives you your bonus to hit (giving fire
adjustments based on relative motion and range), the threat evaluation
gives the initiative bonuses (less time spent trying to figure out
what to react to, but doesn't let you think any faster), and the
tactical expert system predicts target motion and such to aid in
planning. The first and second could be obtained from a Sentry gun's
programming, while the third would be a smartframe type program
running a tactics program based on the DINAB system. This would have
to be programmed up by a decker with a lot (read 8+) in a small unit
tactics knowledge. I figure the programs have a memory multiplier of
about 8-10, just to make them big enough to really take a while. Add
in the fact that they probably were done up with something along the
lines of the Optimization option, and that's a hell of a big program
to code. This program could probably be contained on either headware
memory or a datasoft in a softlink or datajack.

Input/Output.
This is actually the hardest part of the system. I believe (since
it doesn't contain any references to needing a display link, or
cybernetic eye enhancements of any sort) that the input and output
system is based on simsense, or more likely skillwires. I say this
because the combat computer has to gather data from at least 3
sources: eyes, ears, and inner ear (for platform motion and such). A
skillwire system would also need these sorts of input to function
correctly. So, theoretically at least, a combat computer analog could
run off a skillwire's input.

So what does this all mean?

Well, if you accept these premises, then theoretically a character
with a skillwire system (input), an encephalon (output), a cranial
cyberdeck (actual processing) and sufficent memory could modify the
interworkings between all these systems (probably by modifying the
encephalon) to produce effects like those obtained by a combat
computer.

Here is how i think it would work: First, the basic program rating
of the combat programs (remember, there are 3), can be no more than
1/2 the MPCP rating. A math coprocessor will add half it's level to
the MPCP rating for purposes of this calculation. The system's
effective level is limited by it's input, so make it (base rating of
program) + (encephalon rating) + (skillwire rating * 2). This is not
an automatic advancement to the base rating, however; all the regular
rules for enhancing combat computers apply. In addition, by running
these programs, you effectively forfeit some of the benefits of the
above systems: -1 die from the task pool for every program running; -1
from the effective MPCP rating for every program running, minus an
additional 1 for every task pool die that you do not have (ex: 3
programs running, task pool of 2, means the remaining program further
reduces the MPCP by 1); and each program counts as 1 skill point being
used by the skillwire system.

What this means is that the character who wants a combat computer
but doesn't want to give up flexibility can now use those abilities if
he or she needs to, but still have other options open for when he or
she is not shooting things. Oh, and the system load delays and
softlink system load delays would take effect when these programs are
loaded into memory, so to speak. So, if a character were to
discontinue using the programs (for example, to get back the MPCP
factors to deck well), then they would have to sit through the SLD and
SSLD before they could use any of these programs. Also, they can limit
which programs to use. They may only have the threat analysis up at
any onr time, but bring up the other two when expecting a serious
fight. This method also requires a lot more forethought and planning
to get the most out of it, as opposed to the combat computer. it is
also not significantly less expensive, and a lot more costly in terms
of time and effort to procure. Any additional linkages required by the
system would probably not require more than .1 or .2 essence.

But this is all just MHO.

I made a integrated cyberware system for external modules in a similar (but les
complicated) way by combining a display link,software chip and a special unit with
datajacks.
It should be quite possible to integrate cyber with each other in this way if the cyber
interfaces are compatible and the propper conections are made.
Sending my Mind Controlled Equipment Datajack System as a atatchment for anybody that
wants to look at it.

Two, Ogilvie, Luftwaffe, Machine"><font size="5">Mind
Controled Equipment Datajack System</font></font> </p>
<p>The MCEDS (Known as M-Zed) is a system for national military forces,
which purpose is to give the soldier the advantages of mind controlled equipment
without extensive cybersurgery and releasing restricted cyberware into society.
The system consists of a triple datajack, a internal software unit, and a
retinal display system capable of showing real time Video and smartgun info.
This is corresponding to a civilian Video link, as favored by rich SoTA freaks
with headware cell phones. The Datajacks are compact models, using 6x6mm clip
jacks, with adapters to normal jacks available in your average electronics shop.
The internal software unit descrambles the external unit feedback for use. MCEDS
units cannot be used without one. Further it can be activated and deactivated
with a 320 bit code, so that former personnel can not use equipment unless
they are reactivated, and the modules themselves will only work with
inplants they are not programmed to recognize. Thus the MCEDS units can be used
in civilian life as regular cyber accessories with little risk of abuse. The
MCEDS is a versitale system, capable of delivering many of the advantages of
regular inplants with one small cheap inplant. The actual equipment consists of
external units which the soldier connects to through the datajacks.This allows
the soldier to carry the mindlinked equipment he needs for a specific mission
and to pass the equipment on to others. The fiberoptical wiring is carried under
the clothing to minimize the risk of damage, even though the
monofilament-reinforced wires can hold 1500 kilos. If the wires get tangled or
is garbed by the enemy he can auto release them through a mindlink command. The
equipment modules are often worn in a armored mother unit worn around the chest
under the bodyarmor, integrated in heavy armor or in armored belt pouches.
Smartlinks and GunCams are integrated in weapons or attached to sight rails.
Typical MCEDS firmware modules include Battletac&#153;, Smartlink and Guncam
systems and regular sights, Radios and other coms, Sensors, GPS systems,
databases and small computers/ cyberdecks or Remote Control Decks. The
possibilities are many. In theory a soldier could connect to over 200 modules in
serial. Further MCEDS is used for generic mind control hardware, like datajack
port equipped vehicles and artillery pieces. <p>&nbsp;

<p>The MCEDS inplant needs a activation code from the (Legitimate)owner of
the equipment to work. MCEDS modules will not give any info to anyone that does
not have a code it is programmed to recognize. It also has to be reverified by
one of the owners terminals every 2 months unless it is told otherwise after
being given a admin code and a confirmed ID from a high command central(similar
to a credstick, but with a code 5, voice sample 7 and Retinal scan 6). It is
possible to hack the modules, but this requires 2 successfully Electronics tests
similar to tampering a level 7 keypad, and then a computer 7 test to override
the code. A Computers 10 test is needed to override the need for the bimonthly
verification. BTLs cannot be used with a MCEDS implant.

<p>The modules are 10x15 cm black shock proof densiplast boxes with 6x6mm
jack ports. They resist damage with body 1 and Armor 4/5. Typical modules would
be BattleTac's, Radio packages, field computers and the like.1/2 size modules
are 5x15 cm boxes similar to the full size versions. They would typical contain
a simple radio or tactical com units, a GPS or a chip reader unit. 1/2 size
modules can be clipped together and carried in module carriers. </p>
<p><font face="Terminator Two">BattleTac Systems: </font>
<p>MCEDS BattleTac provides real time combat information directly to the
users field of vision or consciousness.It can bring up maps, lists, positions
and diagnostics of fellow soldiers,prestored data and even target info from
other soldiers. To "mark" a target all a soldier needs is to spot the
target and mentaly "tag " it. The targets location is thus available
to other soldiers or support units. The Soldier must keep track of the target
himself, however. If he loses LOS with the target or looks at something else the
Tag disappears. A Tag can pass from one soldier to another.
<p>Game Effects: <p>MCEDS BattleTac mostly means that the user has
knows where his chummers are, and if one spots a target everybody else knows
where it is. The tag is not accurate enough to fire accurately at. Normal
modifiers apply, the user just know its what's there.Firing through a wall at a

Smartlink and give the same effect as a Smartlink II cybersystem.They are
however more rugged than regular systems. </p> <p>Smartgloves
have Smartlink pads imbedded in the palm of the hand and enables the user to use
regular Smartlink as if they had a Smartlink II implant.Available as any kind
off glove. <p>A sight link is a small camera unit that fits over the end of
a regular gunsigth, alowing the user to see through it with the VidLink. The
sight must still be manualy controlled. <p>Guncams are top mounted
cameras that function as a Smartlink as well as supplying video footage. As the
these cameras are based on cybereye tech, Mag systems,Lowligth and Thermo and
other mods (like Rangefinders) are purchased at half the cost of a similar
Cybereye mod. The Smartlink gives -1 to target numbers when mag systems are

carry a MCEDS module, much like a reinforced ammo pouch. They feature a 6x6 jack
per pouch so that all modules in the carrier can be connected through one
wire.The pouches give +1/+1 armor for every two pouches worn. (Thus a
4-module rigg would grant 2/2 points of armor). The Modules get an additional
