The questions that I had about elementals focused on Kyle's use of bound
elementals for remote services. This directly goes against the rules for
summoning elementals. When an elemental is summoned the mage can do one =
of
two things:
1. He can bind the elemental to his service for use at a later date.
2. He can command the elemental to perform a specific remote service.
If the mage binds the elemental then he can only control the elemental
when it is in DIRECT line of sight. This means that Kyle could not send =
an
air elemental to protect the Truman's house while he investigated. If =
the
mage send it on a remote service exactly after the conjuring then he
cannot call on the elemental later. Once it gets that command it
effectively while carry out that command no matter what. This is the =
basic
rules for conjuring as specified in the main book.
Unquote..........
The way I have always interpreted and what seems very logical to me, is =
that a remote service is just another form of service, only it cancels =
out all other services the he owed to the magician. Under the section =
about the services the remote service is still mentioned, so why should =
younot be able to send a bound spirit in a remote service. I usually =
tend to play spirits (and especially nature spirits) more like NPC's, =
which gives me much more flexibility. This allows me to perform much =
more then the rules cover. I don't think the rules on spirits were meant =
to cover all of it, just to give a guideline in dealing with them. I =
tend to see conjuring more as a way of communicating with the spirit =
world and one with a high skill in that knows the protocols and the =
motivations of spirits pretty well, just like a good ettiquette skill.
