Some more info on the SR3 hardcover...

I went to the place where I get my gaming books, and asked to pre-order
a hardcover SR3 book. She looked at the published add for it though,
and it looks like a hardcover binding isn't available, but if someone
orders 24 books, they get a limited edition hardback, of which (FASA
claims) there are only 50 being made.

WHAT THE F??????

My experience in general is that the hardcover books last, and the
softcover ones dissolve under the kind of abuse gamers inflict on
frequently used books...

Is there a way to get a hardcover version of the book besides going to
GenCon?

I was flipping through a magazine at the gaming store where I work, and saw
on the inside cover, a picture of SR3...way kewl :) Next time I go to work,
I think I'll pick up a copy, and post whatever info is available. It also
had a small blurb about the new Seattle Sourcebook, saying it would be out
in September I believe.

AFAIK, That is the truth, the partial truth, or someting resembling the
truth (Hi MC23 :) ... You've got it right up until the "only 50 being
made" ...

1) It would not be cost effective to produce so few Hardbacks.

2) They could not meet any kind of demand I don't what numbers they
expect to sell softbacks in but *one* store here in Houston will be
purchasing 40 something copies and will be recieving 1 hardback (If not
one of the partners is gonna be *PISSED* ... she collects HBs). If this
is just one store in one city ... imagine what numbers FASA is going to
need to produce in order to supply the entire US let alone the world ...
(At least I /hope/ HBs will be available internationally ...)

Yup, you can try to snag one from your local store ...

I put adhesive tape around the edges and along the sides of the cover page
. This way the pages of my sourcebooks stay in surprisingly good order.

I'm, gonna do that if I can't snatch a Hardcover :) .

Anyway, if your book does fall apart, you can always have it re-bound
with a wire spiral :) .

All the books i like, i take the pages out and holepunch them and put into
binders. You should try it. Walmart has a Large asortment of sizes to pick
your binder from. I usto use a razor blade but once you get experienced on
how to unglue the pages, them come off suprisingly easy. You can also take
the old cover and glue or tape onto new hard cover. Awsome!!!!

In my ever-so-humble opinion, it isn't an RPG book til it looks like it's been through
hell and back. Soda stains, pizza stains, torn pages, bend binding, crazy glue marks
all over...though it takes me some time to "break 'em in". And besides, if
anyone has
the ED hardcover, it fell apart within weeks (the binding) so I put tape all over it. My
SR
softcover is still alive and kicking. I'll take a softcover. :)

I've had my SR2 softcover book for...hmmm, 8 months now. It's never been
subjected to tabletop play, yet the pages are already falling out...I
think I'll give hardback a try. :)

I had Prime Runners fall apart in my hands after reading it once. You may have
gotten a bad binding in your copy.

That, or the fact that I tend to use pencils as bookmarks...I'm harsh on
books!
