Subject: More on the Barret-80
Date: Mon, 1 Feb 93 05:26:43 CET
After looking over a bunch of things, here's how I'd rate the Barret-80
anti-armor sniper rifle:

Name Type Conc. Ammo Mode Damage Weight Price Legal Avail SI
Barret-80 sniper NOT 5(clip) SS 18D 16kg 15,000 1-H 18/14days 4.0
Ammo 6 5 rnds 800 1-L 18/14days 5.0

Short: 0-100 Medium: 101-200 Long: 201-1000 Extreme: 1000-2000

The Barret-80 is possibly the most powerful man-portable rifle in the world
even if it is over 60 years old. It is a heavy, single shot .50 caliber
sniper class rifle intended to destroy lightly to medium armored vehicles
at extreme ranges. It is chambered for a special anti-armor .50 caliber
round that is totally incompatable with other HMGs (you can't put these
rounds in your HMG, nor can it use HMG rounds). Against vehicles and
barriers reduce the rating by half, and the damage code is not reduced.

>>>>>[Chummers, you do *not* want to be on the recieving end of one of
these babies. Just one Barret-80 with a full clip can reduce a Banshee to
scrap, and put a main battle tank into the repair shop for a month.]<<<<<

The Barret-80 is equipped with a quick-change mount for a variety of
targeting scopes and smartgun accessories (a Thermographic/Magnification 3
scope is standard equipment, as is the bipod rest).

The Barret-80 is a military weapon, restricted in most areas. The special
ammunition is also restricted to military use.

>>>>>[Yeah, but the SWAT teams in most major cities manage to get their
hands on one or two of them, for the express purpose of taking down
rampaging cyberpsychotics. If it can drop a GMC Banshee, imagine what it
will do to that boosted, armored troll--from five blocks away no
less.]<<<<<

As a sniper weapon, the suprise rules should be used for the first shot,
unless the target knows about the sniper. Not having access to the Combat
Pool will usually be fatal to the target, regardless of how much armor he's
wearing.
