If you'd really like to make firearms combat realistic, remove the
body damage resistance rols from fire combat. Give the target armor dice,
and combat pool dice to try dodging (maybe), but none of this "troll takes
.12 ga shot in the gut and takes no damage because of 10 body dice". If
you are feeling REALLY generous you could give them 1/2 body round down of
body resistance dice...

:)

I bet players would just looove this idea.

Or (gee, I haven't done this for awhile :) to expand,
targets get combat pool (dodge) vs TN4, and armor
(deflection) dice vs TN(Power of Attack) to avoid/absorb
the damage. And the number of boxes of damage they can
take before they go unconscious is equal to their body,
twice body before death. Leave the wound modifiers where
they are (+1 at one box, +2 at three boxes, +3 at six
boxes) (And yes, a person with a body of 5 would go
uncounscious before taking the +3 wound modifier.)

So, a guy with CP 5, Body 5, and Armor 3 gets hit with a 5S
(no extra successes). First, he decides to role all 5 CP
(against a 4), and gets 2 successes (reducing the damage to
M). Then his 3 Armor dice are roled against a 5, resulting
in 1 success (leaving the damage at M). The guy takes 3
boxes of damage and has a +2 wound modifier, leaving him 2
boxes away from unconsciousness, and 7 boxes of damage away
from death.

(I never liked the idea of everyone having 10 boxes of
damage capacity)

Comments? (and constructive criticism from MC23 ;)

Well the back of SR2 addresses the issue of game lethality. I remember
that it offers a few suggestions, like either halving or doubling armor
values, or a 50 to 100% increase in weapon power.

One thing to keep in mind here is that Body then becomes all but useless,
except for making healing rolls and resisting certain spells. Apart from
that, the idea sounds good to try some day (preferably in a one-off game,
so as not to have the players upset too much because all the PCs got
killed in one game :)
