This strikes me as a fairly similar creature to the one you want:

Protean:
In its amorphous form, the protean is a mass of cells (resembling
dysentery bacteria) weighing as little as half a kilo and as much ad 125
kilograms. It hunts by concealing or disguising itself, luring it's prey
into range, and then engulfing it and destroying it with corrosive
secretions. Proteans can assume the outward form of any creature they
have engulfed and absorbed.

If you want I'll post the stats... It splits into two equally-sized
proteans after it has eaten enough to take it past 125 kg in weight
(adding 1/2 of everything it eats to it's weight)
