While on the subject of strange spells, I startewd thinking,
What are the uses of Illusions? Well a full sensory physical
Illusion, could be used to great effect against security forces.
What do you want them to see? A unit of ten men in full
powered armour? Maybe an attack by giant walking robots? or
something a bit more belivable, like being on fire, or a Piasma
attack?

The possibilities for the illusion spells are infinite. The
only thing that limits them is the players (GMs) immagination.
And as with one spell you can make all kinds of effects happen,
it wont cost the earth in force points.

PS Congrates DD.

In a game I was in the mage created the illusion of a shark flying
through the air, and then into an APC (true the LOS would be blocked,
but the GM was too busy laughing to think about rules), neddless to say
that the crew were somewhat distressed by the fact of a shark inside the
APC with them, and they tryed to shoot it. Bad move, quick case of blender.
To make matters worse, one of the crew, in his dieing gasp decide to prime
a grenade. Well, the inside of the APC was then redecotated in a lovely
shade of scarlet.

Bwahahahahaha...illusions are always really fun. In one non-SR (it was AD&D,
but some enterprising PC can use the idea in SR, probably) game, there was this
big nasty guy munching up on a few of the PCs. So little old me, an illusionist
standing near the door, did an 'audible glamer' spell at full strength right
next to the guys ear. =-)

A shark inside an APC? MAkes you wonder how smart these guards are, now don't
it....If I saw a shark swimming through my APC, my first thought would be "Oh,
great, another bad acid trip," and I'd keep my mouth shut.

Hmmm...
"Oh no, a flying shark just phased through the wall! Even though it's
obviously able to pass through armor as if it were fog, I think I'll throw
this frag grenade (gee, why do I have this? I'm a tank driver) at it!"

Sounds on the level of shadowrunners killing a guard, getting his radio and
saying "Everything's fine here. Oh, and could you divert security from level
4 for a while? We don't need any."

A'Deus, I didn't realise that you were in on that one. I personally always felt
that when GMing your primary responsibility to ensure that ALL involved have a
good time. You shouldn't let the rules get in the way of a good idea. Reward
lateral thinking - people who took novel approaches in my games had a better
chance of success than those who always tried to manipulate the rules.

The way that I worked, and still do was that if a player's thinking wasn't bound
by rulesm then neither should the GMs. If the player always thought in terms of
rules then so did I.

Couple of things.
1) The vehicle was an APC not a tank. APCs have people in the back, soldiers,
corp goons, guards and in the situation - yes they did have grenades. A'Deus
was playing a PC in that run and doesn't really know what took place in the
back. It only takes one person to panic and lose control. Here's a possible
scenario -> 1 guy panics and opens fire. Someone else jumps on him to stop him
shooting. In the ensuing struggle, a grenade is primed. It may not be the most
logical course of events but when one person loses it, some times illogical
things happen. The PCs were in over their head through no real fault of their
own and I cut them a little slack for creative use of a non combat spell.

Besides, if you are going to be critical, read the message that you are being
critical about. Nowhere did A'Deus state that the grenade was thrown at the
shark, or even primed in anything even remotely resembling rational thought.

Concerning the rather sarcastic remark I made about a flying ethereal
shark in an APC. . .

I don't know why I said it. I've allowed some really silly things in
my campaigns, just because they were so off-the-wall and creative.
I probably would have let the shark do the trick myself, unless I wanted
the APC to catch them . . .

Oh, and I have played in games where guards are fooled by a shadowrunner
with a guard's radio saying 'Everything's ok here'.

yes but did they then ask for the floor to be cleared of security - thats when
the players need to be knocked upside the head.

my favorite is still the extraction run where the player told the willing target
to go to the kitchen to get a donut!!!! - The kitchen had a door outside which
the players came in by.

I must admit - I probably got a bit rough on my reply - bad week and all.

I also did this, but the PCs missed an important part of the query and didn't
respond correctly.
