I'd just like to find out what the most commonly used character sheets out
there are. I like the Fanpro/Fasa Shadowrun Originals, the ones on the
www.shadowrunrpg.com website and in the back of the books. I'm not crazy
about many of the others as they become unwieldy.

I'm busy writing an ASP character sheet which can either take and XML
document as output from the NSRCG or values from a web page form and turn
them into an original looking character sheet with the values neatly filled
in, instead of the abortion that normally passes for my handwriting.

So whadaya think?

In our group are currently two sheets in use. One is the original and
the other one is Wordmans sheet collection.

We always use either the book sheets, or Ash's sheets
(http://www.dragonpaw.org/~ash/shadowrun/). We find that Wordman's sheets
require each character to have far too many sheets of paper to form their
"character sheet".

I use a word processing document of my own design. No boxes, more like
the character descriptions in the scenario books, I guess. Of course,
there are the injury check off boxes, that's different.
Of course, my favorite character gereration program is excel, so I may
be too strange for the survey.

Using excel isn't really that odd.. I have an old laptop that I keep the
character information for my players on... everything is in a single excel
spreadsheet.. with a `notes` page as the last worksheet...

Comes down to what works best for each person... that's why there are so
many different types... my players asked what character sheets should they
use and my response is `whatever works best`.

Personally I prefer to have my own characters in a word document `cuz it
looks purty`, while for playing, in an excel spreadsheet...

A question to Shannon Buys (mailto:Shannon@*****.co.za) does it have to be
ASP? Sorry... am more of a PHP person myself. And a buddy has expressed
some interest in doing a character generation bit in Flash (but he is way
too odd for any survey). Hmmmm.... maybe that should be my next useless
project...

I made that one couples of years back... it's rich text format, and it mean
to be fill either by a pen or by a program like word. That way you could
share it (with your GM), backup it online, and print a fresh copy of it
before each gaming session.

You could take a look here :
http://shadowfrance.free.fr/documents/sr3_ficheperso.zip

But a very nice xml version would be fine :-)

Paolo also has designed some nice ones. I don't know if he has them on the
archive still. I've got modified versions if you're interested.

Oh yeah. I forgot one of the most popular "character sheets" often used in
my games: the palm pilot (or laptop).

I have 0, none, nada experience with PHP. My main reason for wanting to
write this is because I like the original Character sheets, but my players
and my own have the most horendous handwriting known to man. I've bought
each of my players a flip folder to keep character info in and printed most
of the important stuff for them.

I thought it would just look really nice to have an original character sheet
printed with most of the data that doesn't change that often already filled
in.

But anyway, a friend of mine has Adobe Acrobat and he says it can make a PDF
into a form that you can fill in and print, so I'm going to check that out
this weekend.

Still, my boss would probably let me host a website on our dev server and it
would be cool if you could fill in your character to a form and then print
it as a HTML doc that looks EXACTLY like an original SR char sheet.

Interesting. Personally, when using my own sheets, I never have more
than one sheet of paper (double-sided). The whole idea is to mix and
match to taste.

If your group is using a bunch of different sheets, the mixes I have in
my sheets must be wrong. What sheets do people end up using? How could
what they use be consolidated into one double-sided sheet?

BTW, the sheets in question are at

How about JSP? I could volunteer some time to help with that.
[Actually, I think I have enough references, so I could volunteer some
time on an ASP.NET page, but I prefer JSP.]

I have my characters in a word doc which I have on my work machine, my
laptop and my Psion, my principle NPCs and some of the PCs on NSRCG and the
rest of the PCs are handwritten on the "official" character sheet (of which
I have photocopies of the principle bits.)

When I pick up Acrobat and probably the Adobe DTP package I'll probably do
up some of my own.
There's never enough space for the important stuff on official character
sheets is there :-)

Well, It looks like I've solved my problem, Adobe Acrobat turns a PDF into a
form for you and by the looks can accept javascript to take actions on forms
and import values. With a little bit of inteligence, it looks like we could
get NSCRG to spit out a straight FanPro Char sheet with all the important
bits filled in already.

When I'm done with converting the char sheets to pdf forms, I'll let
everyone know and you can get them from me if you want.

While you're at it, see if it's possible to allow separate saves of
the filled in forms. Allowing users to save individual characters in
PDF. I'm not at all sure if this is possible tho'.

Selections from the diary of an AOL user.

July 25. That nine year old kid next door hooked me up to
America Online for me. He's so smart. I told the kid he was a
prodigy. But he says that's just another service. What a modest
kid. He's so smart and he does these services for people. Anyway
he's smarter then the jerks who sold me the modem. They didn't
even tell me about communications software. Bet they didn't
know. And why do they put two telephone jack holes in the back
of a modem when you only need one? And why do they have one
labeled phone when you are not suppose to hook it to the phone
jack on the wall? I thought the dial tone sounded funny! Boy,
are modem makers dumb! But the kid figured it out by the sound.

Already been checked you can save it under acrobat reader with the stuff
filled in. Cool huh?
