Here's one that just came to me in a burst of light [I hit may head
on the desk napping :-]. A run based on the movie The Seven Samurai, by
Kurosawa [not the remake Magnificent Seven, with Yul Brenner].
You could set it one of those isolated towns in the Mojave, in the
Cal Free State. A group of townspeople approach the runners to come to
their town, and drive off the roving gangs that have been preying on
them. [the townspeople don't have much, so this one is really a test of
the runners being good samaritans. Or, they xould need a place to hide
out after that last run <ouch!>]
The runners would probably face a force of anywhere from 50 to 100
bandits, who could be anything from the local variant of Humanis, to a
bkier gang ala the Road Warrior.
They might encounter mysterious people like the Anazi, or make
friends with a roving gypsie caravan passing thru the area [either one
could have the potential of being allies, to help in the runners'
struggle, if they play it right].
They might find the maurauders' home camp, and strike at it's heart
[why are the bandits beseiging the townspeople? Is it for resources,
water being very scarse in the Mojave. Could it be racial intolerance?
Or is the town on a strategic site [say a mineral deposit, or an illegal
toxic waste dump] and some corp is trying to get the settlers out of
there before their secret is revealed?
Lots of chance of roleplaying, as the runners try to convince the
townspeople to fight for themselves.
All leading up to the final conflict, which can either end in a
massive bloodbath [the runners should definitely know they were in a
fight], or quietly [maybe they found some piece of info they could use a
leverage to stop the attacks]. Whichever option chosen ,be sure it
satisfys the constraints of your storyline [and your players. Nothing
marrs a game more than a lame ending].
