and I recommend it to people looking for a good
Cyberpunk thrill. There were a couple of things
that I thought were cool enough to warrent
bringing up in a ShadowRun context.
SLIGHT SPOILERS FOLLOW:
The first thing that I saw that made me think
"that's going in my game" was a scene of this
corporate meet, with two principles and a bunch
of "Company Men" types hanging around with
briefcases. The police start to barge in, and the
goons slip the latches on the briefcases and pull
up on the handle. The fake "case" falls away
and presto-they are each holding a SMG by the
top carry handle, while a stock unfolds...
The second thing was that there was a piece of
tech called "ThermoCam", which essentially
allowed people to make invisibilty suits. In SR,
I'd say just do it with a spell. The coolest use
was:
SPOILER SPOILER SPOILER
The hero tracks down a car she was tracing into
an abandoned railway station, gets a good view
of it sitting parked below. She opens up with
automatic fire. It bounces off something
in-between it and her... something armor plated,
with massive gun turrets and INVISIBLE! Think
of what weird plot twists you can do with an
invisible tank around to confuse people.
The third thing I want to mention, and perhaps
the most disturbing, is the existence in the movie
of "Ghost Hacking". Ghost is used in this movie
to mean the part of ones consciousness that
can't be replaced (yet) by machine, ones soul.
It is possible (in this movie) to have a program
break through the protections in a datajack and
"reprogram" a person, giving that person new
memories and motivations. Very nasty.
I'm wondering, after reading about psychotropic
IC in VR 2.0, if FASA is heading in this
direction... If your decker starts acting weird in
a few years, get very nervous and ask if he still
remembers any details from his childhood...
