anyone have any favorite movies for story or character ideas. Or just
movies that have the same feel as shadowrun.

some of mine.

Pulp Fiction: some great NPC ideas, especialy Mr. Wolf (Harvey Kietel's
character)

Resevoir Dogs: good example of what can happen when a run screws
up...also the idea of putting a cop plant in the runner group.

Usual Suspects: some great examples of PROFESSIONAL shadowrunners and
how they act and plan. Also shows how a powerful fixer/crime boss can
exert his influence.

Dead Presidents: shows how low grade shadowrunners might act. Specially
ganger archetypes and the like. And another good example of a run that
screws up.

Heat: this one has more great examples of PROFESSIONAL shadowrunners AND
cops...and the idea of trying to run shadowrun from the COP's
perspective. And of course plenty of character ideas.

The Profesional and La Femme Nikita (or Point of No Return): Two movies
that show how two different types of assassins operate and live (mafia
hitman and government killer).

and of course all of these are great movies on their own, excpet for Dead
Presidents.

anyone else have any examples (specailly stuff for the fantasy aspect.)

I don't know about this one. Most of it is so convoluted that it could
not be the begginning of any kind of a run, but some of the encounters
are good such as the runners having breakfast when the place is held up,
or maybe the runners are sent by their fixer/Johnson to get some
merchandise and kill the current possessors(Brett & co.)

Don't foget to have one of the characters really badly hurt and the
others have to figure out what to do. Just so the magician can't fix them
right up, make it the mage(especially if they are the munchkin type)

See Above.

Definitely a movie that you should see. The part with the bad guys
fighting the cops in downtown LA with automatic weapons was something
that should be seen and you can relate to this game. The opening robbery
where they steal the Bearer Bonds is also good. Not to mention a
double-cross or two.

My sentiments exactly.

"From Dusk Till Dawn" was a good movie to incorporate fighting a bunch of
vampires(I have reconsidered the role and fighting techniques of vampires
since I saw it). Also them fighting off a horde of vampires really
reminded me of fighting Insect Spirits because they were up against so
many things at one and were blasting away like what happens when most
people fight hives.

"Aliens" was good if you want to add the threat of fighting Insect
Spirits on their turf again.

The Killer, Hard Boiled and Hard Target by John Woo. The first two for an
excellent feel for the 'honourable man sold out by evil boss' types, the
third for the 'rich geeks hunting SINless people for fun' angle. After
abandoning the idea of making firefights realistic (PCs die too fast
for it to be fun) we switched to the John Woo school of gunplay.

The Crow for an interestingly supernatural feel.

Black Rain if you want to send runners to Japan.

Here are a few I think are shadowrunnish types:

Harley Davison and the Malboro Man
Must see movie about just how bad things can get.

The Fugitive
Tommy Lee played the scariest Corp-Sec Exec. In fact before
I had even seen the movie, I had an FBI guy who was a dead
ringer for him.
