Subject: Moving out of Melee Question

Looking for someone who caught a rule I missed or even house rules.

I was wondering if anyone out there knows any rules regarding leaving melee
combat. Most rules ystems I've played with have some sort of detrimental
effect for turning tail and running from a fight.

Thanks in advance,

Scott

Well, there are two rules in question that I can think of that
would apply to this situation. The first is the "interception" rule in
the movement section of the basic rules. Basically, this rule says that
if your movement brings you within a meter of another person, they get a
free melee attack at you. In the situation where you're already embroiled
in melee, I'd say your movement starts at that point, so they get a
freebie as you turn to run. If they miss, you're gone. If they hit you,
however, you're still caught up in combat. I'd say that this holds true
even if you stage all the damage down (i.e. you try to get away, but the
guy sticks with you even though his last attack was ineffective).
That said, you can use the Martial Arts maneuver of Evasion (from
the Cannon Companion) to aid you in trying to get away. Some martial arts
are very good at teaching you how to disengage from combat safely (I know
mine puts quite a bit of emphasis on it).
So there you go. Part basic rule, part expanded rule, with house
clarifications. What more could you want? :)

Check the rules for "interception" on p. 108. You would be moving
within 1 meter of an opponant, so they should apply. You would (maybe) be
turning your back on that opponant, giving them "supperior position".
