Hello all

Does anyone know why the Muscle Replacement from the SR 2 sourcebook page 248
does _NOT_ affect reaction, while the Muscle Augmentation from Shadowtech
page 35 DOES increase reaction ??

I can understand why bioware might help magic whereas cyber won't, but I
can't see a reason to why replacement muscle shouldn't increase reaction.

Any suggestions ??

Yes, that might very well be and I could propably live with that if it
wasn't because of the +1 to quickness per level of muscle replacement - Ss
it not logical to say, that when you increase your overall quickness you
also react faster therefore you also get a higher reaction ??

Well, more cyberware and bioware than just Muscle Replacement provide
Quickenss bonuses which don't increase reaction; such as Adrenal Pumps and
Encephalons. Pain Editors decrease Intelligence and this does not affect
reaction. Increase Attibute spell bestow Quickness and Intelligence bonuses
but these do not effect reaction either. It seems to be a matter of some do
and some don't. Muscle Replacement is one of the ones which doesn't. Muslce
Augmentation, along with Suprathyroid Glands and Cerebal Boosters are of
sufficeintly high quality to add to reaction also (indirectly, via the
Quickness or Intellignece bonus). Remember that anything which adds to
Quickness, Intelligence or Willpower also increases the recipients Combat
Pool too, so those pieces which do not increase reaction do still increase
the Combat Pool.

About The muscle aug/muscle rep question. Muscle augs more expensive. About
four times more expensive. You should get something for that.

Hey luke. I just think my last letter might have clarified my comment
about game balance, but I want to be sure I was understood. I just think
that it's a cop out to say game balance and walk away. There are miniguns
in the world, there are nukes in the world, but there aren't any MAGIC
nukes or miniguns because people say game balance. I need a better reason
If you just say game balance, and I change the situation slightly does
game balance still apply as the reason the action shouldn't work? If
we had a concrete reason, like the ones that people came up with later
on like perceptions effecting outcomes then you can use that explanation
in a later arguement. I hope I made myself clear.

Did you read my post with the subject `Viral memes'? I think that
clarified my position. The statement `it's a cop out to say game balance'
doesn't even make sense to me! Why is it a cop-out to say `the game
world will fall apart if you allow this' ?

Yes.

Maybe I'm just not seeing it, but it seems like a very concrete reason to me.

luke
