This could get ugly, but here goes...

If a corp wanted absolute security all it would have to do would
be to put up a firewall in front of their local/internal matrix.
A firewall is a computer that can talk to both the internal and
external world but not to both at the same time. This provides a
much higher level of security for the internal systems.

Now I know all of you can see about a million holes you could try
to get in through, but first realize this: the machines that the
corp would put behind a firewall would have their most sensitive
information and have little or no need for contact outside the
corporate facility. Thins like R&D for a project so black that
only they and the shadows know about it, and plain old data back-up
sites in an isolated area. For instance; Lufthansa, here in
Germany, keep a running back-up of their entire system online
with a firewall somewhere in the mountains. The firewall processes
all data and sends it to the back-up after the sending host
disconnects.

That oughtta stir it up...
