Subject: | My take on tactical computer |

The main Villain of the Week (TM) NPC in the adventure I'm running
tomorrow is an ex-military tactical expert (Heh, my players are going
to meet small unit tactics in Shadowrun. I expect them to die. ;>>)
So, in the unlikely event they meet him FTF, I've decided to try and
write my own version of tactical computer rules that don't involve
throwing fistfuls of dice around the table. I've also redone the
price and essence cost a bit to make it more essence friendly. (Since
I feel that I weakened it a bit now... ;>>)
New tactical computer rules:
Tactical Computer:
Level 1 1 350,000¥ I 4-CB 12/60 days 4
Level 2 1,5 700,000¥ I 3-CC 12/60 days 4
Level 3 2 1,000,000¥ I 2-CC 24/120 days 6
Level 4 2,5 1,500,000¥ I 2-CC 24/120 days 6
Each enhanced sense from the following list adds +1 to computer's
effective RATING: thermographic sight, low light sight (only in bad
conditions), enhanced hearing (not high- or low-frequency, though),
select sound filter. Orientation system adds +1, +2 if it has access
to a detailed map of the area. Thus, the maximum bonus is +5, +6 with
map. Connecting to BattleTac-compatible system through a datajack
gives another +1. The computer can track an unlimited number of
targets, while providing fire control and tactical data ("marking") on
up to (User's intelligence + rating) of them. Data about tracked
target can be edited (like, marking it as a friend or foe) and sent to
a BattleTac net. Acquiring and tracking a target requires two
successes on a Perception test, reacquiring a lost target requires one
success. If somebody wants to lose the acquisition, it is an opposed
test of Stealth against Perception. The computer provides a Tactical
Pool, equal to it's Rating, that functions as Combat Pool against
marked targets. It also enhances tactics skill by it's level, and adds
it's LEVEL to REACTION.
It is also illegal as hell.
(Oh, yeah, and I'm thinking about making the Tactical Pool refresh
only once per Combat Turn...)
