Josh here... I was wondering?

Nadja Daviar.. The new Vice president of UCAS basically owns everything
that Dunklunzan had, minus a few trinkets in his will...

So how rich is she? Is she the richest <meta>person in the world at this
time (Not counting dragons)?

I mean the dragon must have had Trillions of nuyen....

I believe she is the Executor of the Big D's estate. Which is
not the same thing as owning everything. If she takes anything out of
the estate that is not specifically owned by her she has to have a very
good reason.

However, I am quite sure that she has more nuyen then she knows
what to do with, I think her true power and respect comes from her being
the CEO of the Draco Foundation. Let's not forget that she is also the
VP of the UCAS.

Since we are discussing her Highness though.....does anyone
think she might be another of the Immortal Elves? There are already a
couple of them on the Board.

In short: No, I don't. If you want more info, read the DragonHeart
trilogy...

Yes, but I think the Big D's first bequest was to give her everything he
didn't give someone else.

Yes, and I'm certain she gets so much respect for being VP of the UCAS. Why,
I bet if you only consider those laurels, whe gets at least as much respect
as... Dan Quayle did.

Nope, but -what- she is has not been exposed. there is a mentioning of a
picture in the last book of the trilogy (recent one) that talks of two little
dragons being talked to by a big dragon....in the end of the book, Ryan
becomes "more than elven", and I have a feeling that Nadja is as well...

Yeah, but a lot of his cred and other things were handed over to the UCAS

She is an immortal elf only because of one thing ... she is the voice of
Dunkhelzahn, and since he was unable to revoke the power contained within her,
she is then still an immortal ... as we consider them to be ... (this could be
considered a House Rule of sorts) ... just something to make Voices different
from normal public representatives ...

Sorry, I know that it is not popular opinion but I happen to
like the immortal elf stuff and have allowed one of my players to be
born as one.

Now before I get slammed he does not do anything neat or spiffy.
He does nothing out of the norm and it is just concept and roleplaying.
His dad is immortal (no, it is not Ehran or the big H) so it made sense.
The character does not know it and it provides some good plot stuff in
my campaign. Which involves more then just making runs against corps,
mobs, and bodyguarding high profile types.

Okay, I'm confused. Maybe I need to read the DragonHeart Trilogy
to get this but how could Dunkhelzahn have taken away the fact that
Nadja is immortal? Which I am told that she is not.

Though I do like the thought of her being one of the new
immortal elves. i.e. just born this century.

First, definitely read the DragonHeart Trilogy. Explains why you don't want
to make a pass at her :) Second, I think Mike was saying that when
Dunkhelzahn made her his "Voice" that's what made her Immortal. the fact
that he never had a chance to revoke that, means she is STILL immortal. I
think that's what he's trying to say.

I'd just like to point out that nowhere does it say that D making N his
voice would make her immortal - it's a House Deviancy.

Really, read the Dragonheart Trilogy. She's not an Immortal Elf in the
sense that it's meant - it's not clear how old she actually is (and
whether that would qualify her for "immortality" - it could be
interpreted several ways based on the info in the books - on purpose,
I'm sure).

I didn't get the impression that she was immortal. Look at the way
Harley and Frosty treated her. It certainly wasn't as a peer.

Well, if she's immortal, only the Dragons would know - H didn't know
much about what was going on, really. Nadja definitely does not believe
that she's immortal, but that really doesn't matter.

well, maybe she is immortal, though it's not very useful to know...

When Dunkie said Ryan and Daviar were special, that they had a weird sort of
luck, I was under the impression that they were lucky in much of the same
way, the same way we discovers Ryan to be at the end of the triloogy

Well, Frosty doesn't know she's an IE, and Harly could 've looked down at
her as "Born IE" vrs a "created IE" sort of thing (like new versus old
money) but more likely, It's just attitude, IMO ...

I think by her being Dunk's "voice" it just that since Dunk in dragon
form spoke telepathically, she just spoke on his behalf, saying what he
told her to say ...

*Activates Herring (red of course) anti-carp defense system*
Hmmmm ... speaking of creating Immortals ... what about a way for a
character (PC and/or NPC depending on how you run your game) to become
immortal? That way you can stop pestering your characters with Immortal
Elves (damn IEs) and start pestering them with Immortal Trolls (Damn ITs)
... I was thinking of something like a ritual that can only be performed
by a Grade 10 or 20 Initiate (On him/herself or someone else ...) ...
Just a random thought ... :)

Hey, that is not problem. My reasons for my distaste of the "Nadja and Ryan"
thing have nothing to do with game power. We have a guy who is "Immortal" as
well, using the generic rules much like those for Frost in Harlequin's Back.
He -does- have a higher than normal essence, BUT he has no cyberware, and he
trying his best to stay completely away from it.

In short, I do not mind the Immortal Elves thing either, nope, I just mind it
when the game creators leave themselves ways of saying "Nope, you are never
gonna be able to do that and no you can't use them as an example, because they
aren't possible as "Player Characters" for a species..."

Nadja could be either one, but she's not. She's Immortal (IMO) because of her
latent, powerful, nature. Yes, she was the "Voice" of Dunkelzahn, a position
in the home games here that is like being an "Ally Spirit" of sorts for the
dracoform in question.

Damn, I had forgotten about Lofwyr's annoying habit of "multiple voices" in
our home games...

I think that is because Harley is Harley and Frosty is just -there- sometimes.
Harley is also an IE, and has a certain degree of mistrust of Dracoforms (like
they have no basis for this of course ;p

Nadja in the books or elsewhere is not mentioned as an immortal, we did it
here to make it seem that being a voice had some side benefits though ...

Yeah ... she'd be considered nouveau riche by all of the older IE's ...

Yea, I agree. I think it should be left up to the GM as to whether or not they
wish to allow that.

I have considered writing rules for a game that would allow players to choose
to be either Immortal Elves, Dragons, Free Spirits, etc.

This would obviously not be Shadowrun game, but would be a totally different
style of game. It would take me too long to go into and I sure that some
people would call it munchkining.

Someone tell me if I'm completely off my rocker on this, but isn't the only
reason that IE's are so powerful because they lived through a couple of ages,
not because of any inborn powers (other than to live really, really long and
perform magic)?

Read the book :) Seriously, beyond closing a segment of Shadowrun history,
they are also very good books (All 3 of them). I would suggest reading them
even if they weren't kinda important to the timeline/direction of Shadowrun.

Mostly you are correct Nexx, that when combined with their probably (but NOT a
guaranteed) accumulated wealth, would make them a force.

But they are still a killable one. We treat the IE's sort of like "the
Immortals" from the Highlander Series. Sure, they are tough, and many are
richer than the darkest, thickest, brownie, but they can be killed. It just
takes more.

Hell, I think the funniest thing I have done in ages was the "Immortal Storm"
that someone found in an Ancient Text. They uttered the spell, and the next
thing everyone knew, a whole bunch of "famous" or "mysterious" people
started
trying to bump each other off all over the globe.

Yep, had a blast with that one.

Ryan is some form of specially developed draconic humaniod ... basically
something comparable to a Gold Draconian from AD&D's Dragonlance thing ...

And since Dunkie mentioned that both Nadja and him both share something in
common (besides being engaged ?!?) is they both may be Draconians ...

Or whatever the race was called in the Dragonheart series ...

I think they may be rather like shape-shifters, in that thier essence
(hence possibly magic) is higher than normal for thier type. I could be
wrong. They may also be likey benificiers of the lightbearer "greater
incarnation" power, where by the life enregy and power of a dying
lightbearer may be given to another. But in general, I believe you are
correct, a norm who lived an equally long and healthy life would be as
"powerful", given the same training, etc. That's with the exception of
"dragon magic", which may not be usable by metahumans.

Drake. I am assuming that this type of Drake is different from the types in

I don't know about the ED stuff, but I think that IE's power levels come
from hanging around long enough (Frosty is new to the scene and isn't so
tough.)

Well, Someone (Harley?) said that Drakes were possibly even more magical
than Dragons and that magic level should have been too low for one to
"awaken" ... so, I think you're right ... I think these Drakes are
something out of ED but I'm not familiar with ED, so someone else will
have to confirm/deny it ... (Descript was like a dragon [western, IIRC]
with wings but no arms ... ) Hmmm... if FASA SBs/Novels keep making
references to new critters, perhaps FASA will put out a new critter book
... I for one would really go for a collected critter compendium with
some new and all of the old (from BBB, P/NA, P/E, CyberPirates, & T:SH)
portrayed in the Patterson's Guide format (which is why I included the
BBB) but even just the already existing critters would make for a large
SB ... even so, I'd go for it ...

Here in our home games, Draconic Magic is something Humanity fears, as most
spells which a dragon casts are done with no fatigue at all, for something
that would kill the normal mage in the world ... and woe be to anyone who is
the target of some spell a dragon takes some drain in the process of casting
it ...

Well...I happen to like Mike's viewpoint on this subject...in short
that no one born in this cycle of magic has lived long enough to be
immortal yet. Kinda leaves it in the air.

Well ... Your reply makes it hard to tell whether you know everything on
the matter (no offense) If you already know this stuff, disregard :) but
I wanted to state it in case you didn't and for those who don't ... IEs
(Immortal Elves) are generally mysterious elves who have been around
since the 4th world (SR is the 6th) and are too often used as a shortcut
in explaining why things are. Now immortals born this mana cycle are a
different matter. They are generally (I think) used as supporting cast
for the Longer lived IEs (a la Frosty for Harly & Ehran). I personally
like the idea of immortal elves (as plot devices AND PCs ...) but think
they could be overworked easily.

Anybody have house rules for playing IEs? (since they get those nifty
immunities)

Very. "Drakes" from ED are bibedal "dragonettes", known to
serve the
dragons, and, IIRC, made by them somehow. No published ED material goes
into rules or much other depth on thier nature and abilities, though.

might be Lofwyr toe jam---------ewwwwww. Personally I'm dreading the day

on the subject of IE's. IMC, i tend to think of them not as anybody
special at all. elves live for a very long time anyways and i loo to the
Paths for elves for my view. so IMHO, the IE's IMC (what a mouthful!!:)
are just those elves who refuse to take the trip to the northern isles.
they are those individual elves with a string sense of will and refuse to
leave...OR...they have some (maybe more than one??) unfulfilled purpose and
that is why they are still around. as ws said before, their great power
(and usually wealth too) comes from the fact that they have been able to
better their abilities because of the amount of time they have lived.
