Doc's question on intelligence got me thinking about 2060's national
intelligence agencies, ones like the CIA controlled by actual governments.

So would their tasks be the same as they were today, except expanded after
the breakup of the US to include, and probably mainly focus on, the NAN,
CAS, Aztlan, Tir and possibly foreign organised crime syndicates- the Yaks
or Triads in foreign countries? Plus, would spying on the asorted
extraterritorial Corps. and MegaCorps, since they are technically their own
independent countries, simply be folded into their duties or do you think
they'd create a seperate organisation for the corps.?

I've had enough of the standard corp. X hires the team to hit corp. Y and
figured nation state level espionage might make an interesting alternative.

>From what I have read, the IRS is the one that tracks the corps more
vigorously ...

The CIA would have set up departments to handle each of the NAN nations and
any of the ones they consider lumping into one station (one station,
multiple countries to track). Would they still spy on the megas ... you
betcha they do ...

And the same in return as well ...

It seems that the UCAS, unlike todays US, is a bit more internally focussed.
I'd expect that foreign intelligence operations would be less of a priority
to the UCAS government than the US government. OTOH, I'd expect that the
same intelligence organisations would also be resposible for
extraterritorial megacorporations (perhaps additional divisions might cover
corps). BTW, I remember reading somewhere that the CAS got the CIA, and the
UCAS equivalent is Consular Operations. So, yeah, I think primary focus
would be on other North American powers and probably megacorps with
significant holdings in North America.

Even in SR, organised crime syndicates have nowhere near the power or
influence of nations or megacorps. I think operations involving such
syndicates would not be the responsibility of the foreign intelligence
organisations.
