I was looking through the stats for Nature Spirits, and it seems to me that
only very few of them can actually attack someone. None of them have any
form of attack. A couple have Powers which can do damage, such as EMP, but
none of them can bash you over the head with a steel pipe or anything like
that. This makes them rather less useful when compared to elementals in my
view.

Yes, but the "on the fly summoning" of spirits does give them an advantage
over elementals. I mean mages have to devote a "slot" to keep an elemental
in their service - so it would be logical that they wont waist this "slot"
(I am refering to the charisma limit) by summoning a low level elemental.
OTOH this means that they'll get fewer successes in their test ergo fewer
services. This means that a mage will be most reluctant in using that one
sevice his force 10 elemental ows him, whereas a shaman can easily summon
a force 2 say spirit on the fly getting loads of successes they can use
without a second thought. Now combine this with nifty powers like accident,
alienation, and my personal favourite confusion and you get some pretty
usefull spirits :)

You could say that, in manifest form, they use (str)M Stun like anyone else.
It appears to me that FASA forgot this bit, as nowhere does it say anything
about whether or not nature spirits can attack... Nature spirits have me
confused a bit, too, because I can't really picture them _doing_ anything;
how does a heap of garbage open a door? Does it slide on over there and push
itself against the door or something?

That's what I mean. Although the general agreement on here is that they
can't attack (but that this drawback is made up for by their other useful
abilities and their cheap/quick summoning).

<chuckle>

I suppose the 'visuals' of it would depend on just what the spirit was
appearing as. If it was a humanoid, then it could open it as normal, if it
was a dust devil, then it could 'blow' the door open. If it was a pile of
garbage, then it could, um, er, "slide over and push itself against the
door" :-) As for just _how_ the thing opens the door, well, after careful
consideration, I'd have to say "by magic". :-) Perhaps it communicates with
the 'spirit' or 'essense' or 'aura' of the door and requests it opens, or
perhaps it has some sort of telekinetic abiltiy. Alternatively, because it
is actually manifesting, then you could rule it opens the door physically.
But does it really matter all that much?
