Hi all!

Yesterdays session ends up in a desaster, at least from the players pov.
As only the half group came to the session, I run something easy, I
thought so...

The chars where hired to kidnap some guy from a DocWagon hospital and
bring him to Johnson. That's (relative) simple, right?

They manipulated some databanks and had a date (without any equipment,
so they wont be cached for that) with the assistant medical director
from the station the target was. I thougth they would go there to see
what security measures where made and afterwards prepare for the run.
Instead they startet the extraction by killing the assistant and the
guard infront the guys room.

IRC that was the silliest action the players ever did (in nearly ten
years), resulting in a hunt through the hole city with some nice
pictures in the news, a contract breach with Johnson (they told him to
pay ten times the money or kill the guy, later during the meeting they
opend the fire when Johnson only gave them 50% extra) and the chars
sitting with the guy (slowly dieing because of his serious wounds) in a
savehouse after they lost their appartment due tor a little grenade
explosion. They're hounted by the cops, Johnson and a AA kon for the guy
and various things they did during the hunt...

Planed as a stopgap and now looks like the the main plot for the next
sessions...

Problem is, the background for the extraction don't fit with that.

The guy is only the contact person to some gangs in the area the kon
controles, who doesn't know any worthy things, except for Johnson...

Any ideas/comments except let them bleed for their stupidity, what they
propable will?

My thought: Be merciful to the half that WASN'T there. Just hand-wave
it. Say it never happened.

If you want to gain the EGM merit badge, you can have it all as a sim
they were hooked up to without their knowledge. They then are unhooked
and sent on their way.

Great way of screwing with their minds. Whats real, whats not?

They may never know.

My slightly (?!?) more evil and twisted thought: The half that wasn't there
is hired to take out the half that was for their lack of professionalism.
Warning! As has been explored previously on this list, this is only an option
if the players are capable of bearing in mind that actions performed by the
characters are not to be taken as personal affronts by the players behind
them! This carries a lot of risk with it, but you know your players better
than I do for obvious reasons...

I've actually written a 'run almost exactly like that one; in an attempt to
teach some of my players the value of doing their legwork.

Why should I involve them. I expect, that the other pc's involve them,
but when the hunters have succsess, chances are high that they can
escape...

Even if I think they wouldn't (what I don't), it would be David vs.
Goliath or unexperienced vs. experienced. I even think, if one (or more)
of the unexperienced pc where killed, chances are high that they are not
going to make a new character ;(
